When i received the first phone call about the verdict i was absoluteley gutted. The call was actually from a guy that i have known for years and he couldnt wait to tell me as ever since ihe knew that i had purchased property in the north he has made it his business to keep in touch with me as he is of gc descent.I bet he couldnt wait to make the call. Now i am not a violent person but all i wanted to do was wipe that smug grin of his face. What goes around comes around.Federal is now the way forward, Paul.

My first thoughts were ....why........ what the hell will happen to the talks now ! Do these people know what damage could be caused by the decision made, the EU make all the noise about talks talks talks then make a silly decision like this. Then again what do you expect from a lame corrupt stupid organisation like the EU.

AMAZING... some of you guys don't get it.. 1/ HOW could anyone have been "surprised" ? The Advocate General of the ECJ had already advised - and the decision is on a point of LAW. Now we wait to see if the UK can "politicise" the ruling to find an excuse not to enforce it...the fudge... 2/ If ANYONE doubted the surreality of "TRNC" they will appreciate the "bubble" in which folk live there .. it is NOT possible to burst that "bubble" militarily, but if you stray outside it and the protection of Turkey you may now realise that LEGALLY you COULD be risking your assets if you have any outside the "bubble". Is it "British" to take advantage of a "situation" ? In practical terms this case just proves that RoC judgemnts converning property in the north SHOULD be enforceable via third party EU Courts.. IF the Orams' case happened NOW, they might have thrown a spanner in the works by saying " the ECHR have ruled their is a local remedy" to solve this...

6M s Not surprised by the judgement just the timing thought they may have had the sense to delay until talks had run their course. You final para is however relevent and may even still allow the Orams a way out of this

Paul, I mean - how could you be angry at the reaction of the GC - you should have EXPECTED it.. that someone "effected" could celebrate the CHANCE you MIGHT lose your home... They might even read some of the pots on here that can appear VERY tactless to the delicate situation.. Surely the irony isn't lost on you ? !

Mark. I don't think any of us were surprised at the ruling. I, like many others, had always put this to the back of our minds. We knew it was coming. The reality is that it has brought it out into the open again and it is now a topic that is 'flavour of the month' Of course we would have all liked the decision to have 'gone the other way' but we all knew it was only going one way. The future? Who knows. I think we'll see so many twists and turns over the coming months that none of us will be able to predict. One thing is for sure though Turkey will have a 'massive ' say in what will happen here. The second 'sure' thing is that we will ALL stick together in this and defend our homes.

re msg 14 "Of course we would have all liked the decision to have 'gone the other way" - I make no excuses for asking you to exclude me from that "we" - but only to wake up those who thought it was OK to buy on land STILL owned by someone else. Please don't take that the wrong way - I would prefer that there was a settlement before non Cypriots participate in "buying" on such land. I firmly belief this action will have an effect in bring about a ruling that the RoC must use the ECHR approved route to seek local redress.

I was gutted when I heard the decision. I am sure this will see the talks fall apart. I still cant believe that GC voted no in 2004 and they go in the EU, TC's vote yes get promised recognition etc and still 5 years later are penalised like this.

"My first reaction was delight that the victims of partition and ethnic cleansing are getting a sense of justice" Mine too Pikey, this will force the talks to a point of no return, permanent segregation and the victims the TC's will get justice.

Not surprised at all with the decision. Also not surprised that the GC's and the EU would put their foot in it so royally. Turkey has said UBP victory notwithstanding the talks would go on, showing good faith - now no-one can be surprised if the talks fall out of bed with the GC's showing such bad faith in trying to solve a political problem with litigation. This could be potentially so ruinous to the TRNC economy to the point that they will walk away from the talks.

There is an equivalent area of Turkish Cypriot land occupied/stolen by Greek Cypriots in South Cyprus that should be claimed by expat owners of disputed land in North Cyprus should they be sued by a GC.

Well it had to go one way or the other.... I was not suprised. Far from over, more than likely has done some damage to the talks. Looking forward to the owner who is an alleged architect ? drawing up plans for his new home and living in it. Bet he can't wait to move back in. One thing is guaranteed, he will have the best neighbours you could wish for. Keep your heads held high, TC will be around for a long time to come.
