rental contracts paying depoist in advance

hi all need advice i am in uk at mo, but moving over in july, estate agents want depoist to hold rental property bit unsure about parting with money they are sending contract by e mail and asking for passport numbers is this the normal course of action

Personally I have'nt heard of them. Perhaps someone else on here will be able to advise you if they have dealt with them before.

I rent out my property although not through an agency. It is normal to ask for a deposit when renting and also for passport numbers. These are required for the form that goes to the tax office, this form has to be stamped and you need it for when you apply for your residency. It does not sound like anything is amiss to me.

Sunbeams are known to be very reliable agents in letting, sales and construction. Also known for providing a very good after sales service. As the butlers wife states it is normal to request passport numbers as these will be used when applying for residency and a deposit is normally requested as way of protection for the Landlord.
