Let Turkey start drawing up plans to develop the whole of the North, including Maras, and all the other areas that would have been given back under the Annan Plan.

Plan for the infastructure: industry, jobs, schools, roads, telecoms, water, sewage, electricty, very fast broadband internet, (well I am dreaming!).

Forget that there may be a solution, let's draw a line under it. Plan to keep 37% of this land.

Then lets plan to bring in a million Turkish nationals, give them immediate TRNC citizenship, this will effectively mean that the TRNC is Turkish as opposed to Cypriot. TR's will not need to wory about exchange land, etc.

Turkey forgets about EU and forges ahead with it's Muslim/Arab partners. Implementation of Sharia Law would help with Saudi investments and would certainly help with excessive daytime drinking!

Now, make this plan a reality, how would the GC's vote if this may be the alternative?

So what you are saying is, if the GC's realised that the alternative to a settlement would be a Turkish Muslm state on their doorstep, they may be a little more amenable to a TURKISH CYPRIOT state? As we know the TC version of Islam is more tolerant than most.

Pinkchilli....."Implementation of Sharia Law would help with Saudi investments and would certainly help with excessive daytime drinking!"

I assume you were being sarcastic....but the introduction of Sharia Law would drive away most European buyers/homeowners anyway.

And as Earlybird said , I'm not sure the true TC's would welcomethe introduction of hardline Islam either !

Its pointless any negotiations,if trnc is trying to use the UN guidelines and ROC is using EU legal system. The two are not compatable and it puts the TRNC at a disadvantage with not being in EU.The ROC can veto any thing they dont like while TRNC has no say in EU be it in ECHR or any other such organ.

Maybe in the long run it would be better to go the EU legal route, with conditions, maybe ask ROC to not use its influence or vetoes while various judgements are being looked at.Partition cyprus and then let the ECHR decide the land issue on an individual basis. However no Greek should be in a position of influence in say the ECHR, as in the Orams case .All land issues must go thro EU courts.

The TC ,EU citizens with exchange land, will have to accept that they cannot use the land they are living on after the EU courts pass judgement, which might be years .

Correct and the GC's have a recognised Local Remedy for property and land claims via Turkey too,

The ROC legal system should not be hearing any future claims as they should be refered to the IPC.

But then again the Cypriot president has already stated that the Cyprus property problem will not be solved by courts.

Hiya girne I didnt say that but I know that feeling. We are all in dark days for the moment but it will pass. We can not do anything to change or correct the situation. It reminds me so much of Ireland (I am Irish) and its worked quite well up till now. You will always get a breakaway faction but they wont get to far. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sorry I dont know what you mean.Turkey is not in the EU so is not in a position to veto ,or be part of the EU judical system.

I was just suggesting that the ROC and a greek judge being able to influence matters in a case that the TRNC or Turkey had no influence in, would appear to be unfair if allowed to continue when the next case comes up.

I am in no way saying the case would have had any other result, but when or if, the UN brokered negotiations are to be replaced with EU/ROC based legal action, then it puts the TRNC at a disadvantage in all future cases.

When, or if partition occurs, the two sides will have to live in some sort of peace,so these legal actions should be taken in a firm way but one that causes the least offence or bitterness.
