we live on a plot along with 14 others including 3 turkish famlies. the land was greek church land given to a turkish family pre 1974 i think in leu of services to the church and president.however we bought the house 7yrs ago whilst under construction all with all the other houses being built at the same time. we used an independant lawyer educated at law in england who assured us every thing was legal.if the greek owner is still alive or relatives want this land back i wouid be happy to pay compo to keep my home at pre 74 or even after 74 rates.the trnc goverment have to stand up to be counted they authorized the sale by issueing kojans/deeds to many properties .there has been an argument relating to property since 74 yet the goverment trnc have openly promoted the purchases of properties in the north since 74.they must stand by their commitment and back all people who have honestly bought houses in the north with the consent of the ruleing goverment at the time.

If the land was given to the TC by the Cypriot government before 1974 then the deeds in the registry in the South will reflect this, and he then sold it to a developer? There shouldnt be any compensation claimed then it was legitimately owned and sold. Why would there be "relatives" claiming? You said it was Church land?

if the land was given to a tc before 1974, then your deeds are turkish pre74 deeds, because the owners were turkish cypriot prior to 74. Therefore you have no worries. Your property is the safest you can get, and as madmazz stated, the gc registry are aware of this.

All you need to know is that youre sitting on the most valuable type of land in the trnc at the moment

"youre sitting on the most valuable type of land in the trnc at the moment"

historically, I agree with you - but there seems to be "shenanigans" issuing"permission to purchase" on such title..

I'd register it in the "rump" RoC land registry as a safe guard.

mmmmm,

The roc registry should already be aware of the fact that this land is pre-74 turkish property, otherwise how else would they be able to seperate greek owned land from turkish land?

And, to be truthful.....should be really give the greek administration the satisfaction, by clarifying ownership with them? Should we really make them feel happy that someone is obliging by their law? As if they were the only government on the island? I mosst certainly would not like to put that smile on their faces!

personal view, of course!

Canyavuz, re msg 6

"The roc registry should already be aware of the fact that this land is pre-74 turkish property, otherwise how else would they be able to seperate greek owned land from turkish land? "

The RoC land registry won't know what has happened post July 74, and it IS important to make sure they do... I think you mean GC / TC owned.. was that a Freudian slip? ;)

"As if they were the only government on the island"

As we were just reminded- when it comes to the rest of the world ( outside of TR ) legal system - they ARE ..

"I mosst certainly would not like to put that smile on their faces! "

..and I would not like to see a smile wiped off that of the LEGAL owner - as I suspect "TRNC" will try and tell those waiting to buy on such land that their ownership is "refused" ( PTP) or can only be via "leasehold" ..

Covering one's ass - is never unwise ... just like a TC getting a RoC passport doesn't mean they are sticking two fingers at "TRNC"...
