My family will be out to stay for a week from 19th May and they have asked about the Hamman in Lefkosha. Does anyone know what time it opens and where abouts it might be. I have seen the doorway some years ago, but havent a clue whereabouts it is now. Carparking anywhere close?

Enter Nicosia via the Kyrenia Gate, drive on and keep the Venetian Column to your right hand, take the second street on your left hand, drive on and find a (paid) parking place near the Gambler's Inn. You're one minute away from the Büyük Hamam (St. George of the Latins). Sorry, no idea about the opening times.

I'm not too sure but I think it might be in the process of being renovated at the moment.

Last time I was there, it was still closed for renovation. It's not expected to be completed till next year.

RE msg 4, Lambousa Gordon > Büyük Hamam - renovated at the moment <

=> Gordon is right. The renovation is set to be completed in 2010, but new digs may change the goals of the renovation - and possibly may change the scheme of completion. (More in Cyprus Today, Feb 28 - March 6, 2009).

=> Right! It's the Omériye Ottoman Bath (beautifully restored with US/EU money), near the Omériye Mosque (medieval, Lusignan, until 1571 known as St. Mary of the Augustinians). You'd best walk from the Lokmaci border crossing (pedestrians).

You don't need directions here when you look at my • Tourist map of walled Nicosia 2009 with all medieval buildings & churches • (follow instructions on the web site):
