moving to karsiyaka in june. please update any mixed feelings on local newspaper headlines in uk. concerning

orams misfortune. feeling very apprehensive.

also anyone else moving to karsiyaka soon who would like to discuss thier feelings and views'. in the last week

it has been headlines every day, all about the land ownership especially in kyernia area. we feel that the exchange of lands should be upheld. the turkish people have lost lands in the south as well as the greeks in the north. we never get to hear that the uk citizens in the south stand to loose as much as those in the north. human rights is for all not on a EU selective basis. Does anyone feel like us, a bit let down, by the TRNC goverment. surely there must be some positive response to all citizens in the TRNC, because its not only residentcial properties that will be at risks, but newly built shops etc. the whole of the economy will surely suffer.

besides all this concern we are putting a brave face on.see you soon

Hello Mr & Mrs Sheppard

Hubby and I are also moving to Karsiyaka when he retires next June. We are over this June for 2 weeks also September and would welcome a chance to discuss the situation. We are the same age group as yourselves and feel just as 'jittery' after reading all the reports etc. But every day is a bonus and we will make the most of what is ahead and enjoy a 'new/different' chapter in our lives. Are you 'mountainside' or 'seaside'?

You will be fine I'm sure, from what we have heard people seem to settle in very quickly and soon make lots of friends and feel so much better in the sunshine.

Welcome to Karsiyaka which in my opinion is the best part of the island but then again i would say that.

Karsiyaka was mainly Greek but some parts are Turkish ours is Exchange but now mine.

I love it here and i am sure you will too once you are settled. I am not going to worry about something i can do nothing about just enjoy my life and deal with each day as it comes.

Thankyou astonhilbilly for your warming reply, maybe we can meet up for a drink when you visit in june, and looking for some friendly chitchat, keep in touch. By the way we have mountain view behind us and sea in front,it is a lovely area, a bit different to Lincolnshire.

Hello to you both once again

Can't access your email address to send a private mail and don't want to put ours on here so if you or any of the other members know of a way to correspond privately we could arrange to meet up in June or September for a good old chin wag.

Good luck, hubby and I wish you the best with your move and hope you will both be very happy.

I agree with Teressa, enjoy what TRNC has to offer and take each day as it comes. There are many of us in the same boat and unfortunately there is nothing much we can do about the situation.

9 out of 10 things a person worries about never comes to fruition and worrying about it will not alter a situation that you cannot influence anyhow,if i were you i would write your worry down on a piece of paper, rip it up and throw it away!Mentally you will have cut ties with your worry. Do you honestly think that all the expats and other foreigners on the island would be stripped of their property and assets wherever theyre assets are?i think not. Enjoy your new life.

Quite right sporty and all those that have written positevly about the situation here. The Orams case has a long way to run. The GC's are members of the EU illegally ?? Why is this never questioned??

Anway - good luck sucker you'll be ok - my wife and I have only recently moved here ourselves and couldn't be more positive about the situation.

I really would not worry about it at all. One thing i would say is dont buy here if you are not able to loose it, then there will be no problem.

I have a place in Karsiyaka too and although only for holidays at the moment it is to be permanent when I retire, can't wait.

Love the area and always love my visits but hate it when I have to leave.

Yes very, things certainly seem to be getting close very quickly, we are from Peterborough so not too far from you in lincolnshire, would be nice to touch base with other new arrivals once we are there.

We also have a bungalow (almost) in Karsiyaka and are based in South Kesteven, Lincs. Hope the new arrivals are settling in. Does anyone in the forum live off Umut Sokak on the coast side of the main road? Has there been any response in the local press from the TRNC government regarding the problem with the Orams judgement? I can get no reply from lawyers, builder or local friends at the moment.....

sucker

We are from Spalding Lincs, just up the road. We will be in our villa in Karsiyaka for a month from 26th June.

Hope to bump into some local people. Spend a bit of time in Tolga's bar most afternoons around 5.00pm. Come and have a drink with a fellow yellowbelly!

Regards

Thanks for the response - good to see most of you are retaining your cool and sense of humour! Have loved the island since first visit in 1960 and wish a peaceful solution could be found - however - we are getting older and running out of time.... Sadly not able to move out permanently yet, but will be over again later in the year, and would be delighted to meet and get to know our neighbours then. Will post a message when we know the date. In the meantime, enjoy the sunshine - Lincolnshire is bright but not that warm!

Just booked our flights for 30 Sept - need to bring with us either TV/DVD player or perhaps laptop instead (would need to buy suitable one). Any advice re hardware/software etc? Have a mobile phone which should be able to use 3G. Basically would like to be able to pick up e-mails, use Skype perhaps? Can't afford any expensive packages! Any advice on what works well in Karsiyaka would be appreciated!

Hi arriving end Sept - looking forward to using our new pool and finding our brandy sour recipe! What's new in Karsiyaka? UK weather v variable, some glorious days, some v wet and windy. Hope recent residents have settled in well and look forward to meeting some of you when we get there.
