Apologies to any waiting for my responses on that thread but I am unable to access it.

If you could repeat your enquiries here then, barring any further problems, I will endeavour to answer them.

Gordon,

You are right, I knew there was something I couldn't access and this was the thread. I still can't access it, so your not alone.

Maybe you should consider posting a new thread, with the original info, and then let people ask questions again.

Unless Izzet or Erkan know what the problem is.

Thanks Gents,

There was a 5th posting on that thread that I hadnt read so I dont know what the enquiry was...

In reply to the other enquiry: the auction has a variety of household goods and furniture for sale on the 24th of February. Items range from 3 piece suites to beds to pictures and carpets. The lots are limited and there is some sort of quality control.

Viewing is possible between 11:00am and 3:00 pm on the 23rd February at the Chateau Lambousa in Lapta.

We are currently thinking of buying a villa in Esentepe but, as it is on exchange land, we are concerned about the possibility of having to pay compensation if there were too be reunification. Our lawyers ( Naomi Mehmet & Co ) say we can't discover where the exchanged land in the south is so are we facing a black hole of liabilty ? Views please ...!

Hi Gaynor,

I think you should have put this up as a new post but for your information or peace of mind almost all the land in the Esentepe and surrounding area is exchange land, in my view you shouldn't have a problem, and I have lived and worked here for five years, the compensation issue has been debated regularly and in my mind it will be down to governments to sort out any possible compensation claims not individuals

Gaynor,

I think you have misinterpreted the meaning of exchage land. No real exchange between a Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot has ever taken place. Maybe you need to do a little more research in this area before you commit?

Don't just read the estate agents sale spin, they will be biased as naturally they are trying to sell you something. I personally agree with Glencoe and feel that governments will bear most of the compensation costs and that it is relatively safe to buy exchange but this really needs to be an informed choice....... so do some more research.

good luck
