Does anyone know of a restaurant that does Kleftico for sunday lunch. We have friends coming out for holiday in 2 weeks and they are looking forward to having slow cooked lamb for lunch.

Not sure when it is starting but Deniz Kizi Hotel in Alsancak do "Lamb in the Well" on a Sunday. Similar to Kleftico but they suspend whole shoulders and legs of lamb in a well dripping on to potatoes and onions. It's absolutely delicious and served with rice, salad etc followed by fresh fruit. Last year it was 26TL per person. Highly recommended.

Message 9 - I've never been to this Sunday Lamb in the Well thingy, but hope to remedy that this June as I've heard it's excellent. I know Deniz Kizi hotel quite well and, assuming the lunch is served outside, you also have the added bonus of it's beautiful setting, right on the bay! Enjoy! J

Try Yorgos, in the Maronite village, near Camlibel, past Titanic, then up towards the reservoir. Full of Maronites, Greeks, Turks and Brits. All getting along (well at least before a recent court case!). Open 24 hours a day. Opposite the gigantic church in the village. Easy to find. Fascinating village. Call Maria on: 0392 724 2060. PS. They only serve mixed meze, then kleftico. Nothing else on the menu. You will not be dissapointed. If you get a chance, ask to look in the kitchens. Amazing!

The Deniz Kizi lamb in the well is served in the outside bar area (they call it the country club). I asked Niazi the other day and he said it would be starting in May but no date. It is usually advertised in Cyprus Today. Jean - the Maronite village is Korucam. It is a bit further than Camlibel. Probably about 45 mins to 1 hour from Kyrenia on a nice Sunday drive taking in the scenery. You can drive there via Camlibel then when finished drive back via Sadrazamkoy and Kayalar right along the coast. Beautiful scenery. I think you definitely have to book as it is very popular on Sundays. Jo

If you like really thick creamy Greek style yoghurt Maria at Yorgos makes it herself. If you giver her at least 24 hours notice she will have some ready for you to buy and take home. Her Mum is the butcher, and you can see her in action at the back of the Restaraunt. Well worth a visit!! And Korucam is fairly near the Mavi Köşk, so you can go take a look round that and then go to the village for your lunch - great day out!! Don't forget your passport though - the Mavi Köşk is on military controlled land.

joandelly and madmazz - thank you both for the information. We had planned to visit the Mavi Kosk this time and so will hopefully combine the 2 and make a nice day of it. I wonder whether anyone might have a phone number for Jorgos? Or any ideas where I could get it from please? Many thanks. Jean

Just a thought people, but I was told the Mavi Kosk was closed at weekends but not 100% sure so please check before you set off for your kleftiko. Went up to the blue house last week and was really surprised, definitely worth a trip. Had kleftiko at the maronite village last year and it was superb!

Go past the turning for Acapulco and tatlisu, carry on up the mountain road, half way you'll see a big building on the left, called the Green Hill restaurant. This place is packed on saturday/sundays with locals. There is a butcher inside, you pick the meat and they cook it to your liking while you wait. You can phone ahead and book kleftico which they cook in a great pit at the front. Its brilliant.
