Hi. This may seem a rather silly but hey! We were last in NC around 8 years ago in early September and had a great time. We are coming back this year around the 12th September and we were wondering if wasps were a problem around this time? Two years ago we were in Corfu in early Sept and had horrendous problems with wasps, they were everywhere - the pool, the beach, tavernas. We couldn't even have our breakfast outside which we love doing! So if anyone could let us know what to expect we would really apprciate it. Many thanks.

Wasps?! Second division stuff, wait until the All Black are over and then you'll get the real sting!

I don't think I've ever seen a wasp?? I've seen a hornet or two and I've seen those big black bees - donkey bees they call them - but they usually just buzz off.

Never seen a wasp?

Couldn’t resist.

Seriously, if you don’t annoy them and let them get on with being wasps they will just bug you (sorry) rather than sting. I know it can be a bit worrying but we all got our place on the island.

A good tip is to take drinks that come in a can through a straw. That way if one of the naughty ones gets in your drink it’s unlikely to sting your throat which can be painful to some, deadly to others.

Bring Piriton or similar antihistamine just in case.

Other than that, it’s the way it is.

Had a serious problem last year with honey bees and Hornets!!!

Due to lact of water, and the local bee keeper not providing water for his bees, the pools around Bogaz were over run by bees drinking from the pools. The Hornets then came and attacked the bees and carried them off!! Police were called and the bee keeper kept water out for his bees. Bees went away and the number of hornets went down.

The road down the Bafra has a few black rubber "things" hanging from the trees which are meant to copy hornets nests. Look like a stack of black bowls upside down. Hornets wont go near other Hornets nests, neither will bees or many other flying insects so having a few of the pretend nests around keeps them away.

Had never seen them before but do seem to work.
