11] US strategist Friedman forecasts that Turkey will rule over the former territories of the Ottoman Empire by 2040

Turkish daily Sabah newspaper (04.03.09) under its front-page title, The new Ottoman is coming", reports that the American strategist George Friedman said that Turkey will come to rule over the former territories of the Ottoman Empire by 2040. The paper writes that Mr Friedman, the chairman and Chief Intelligence Officer of STRATFOR (Strategic Forecasting Inc.), one of the most famous strategic centers in the USA, and known for his closeness with the Pentagon, expressed an interesting forecast. After a period of silence, Turkey has climbed back to the scene of the history and it has begun dominating the region. By its nature, Turkey will become a super power again to enjoy a different kind of rule over its former Ottoman territories, Friedman said.

Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Friedman, who is in Istanbul to attend a conference, stated that by 2020 Turkey will be the tenth most powerful economy worldwide. Referring to the current crisis in relation to the EU and Turkeys accession, Mr Friedman said: Soon you will not feel the need of the European Union. Besides, with the current crisis they have entered into a process of collapse. For this reason Turkey will abandon the integration process with the EU. Because you will not feel the need of this. However, the interest of the Europeans towards Turkey will increase a lot more.

The book of Mr Friedman with the title The Next 100 Years, which receives coverage in the Turkish press, is covered in Turkish daily Milliyet newspaper (04.03.09) under the title, The founder of a think tank close to the CIA, Friedman: Turkey will not lose its secular character. Speaking to the newspaper, after praising the secular character of the Ottoman Empire, Mr G. Friedman said: The year 2009 will be difficult for everyone, but Turkey will later continue to grow from the point it was left. While European countries will be making steps back from the economic point of view, Turkey, in 2029, and especially in Eastern Europe, Balkans and the Middle East, will become a great economic power.

my apologies newlad , not everyone is as well informed as you , and someone posted something about this , so i was just adding this , which i thought was interesting coming from a very well respected US think Tank proessor , and also telling people what high ranking EU official has told me , can you perhaps share some up to date news with me , the cleaner doesnt kno wbaout , cheers mate
