There used to be a woman in Alsancak who had power plate exercise machines but I don't think she's there anymore. Can someone clarify this for me and if she has gone, is there somewhere else I can go? I read in one of my magazines that this is the easiest way to tone up the flab without too much exertion. Is this true?!

The girls in my office have just put me right off power plates! They say it is unhealthy for the internal organs due to the intense vibrations! Any comments? Another thing I'm interested in is AquaAerobics, a bit later on in the season, but not at Onar Village please as the entrance/exit is a nightmare!

Hi, yes I think it is bad for you if you have any back problems. My physio said that this is what finished my back off, from what was, as I thought just a bit of backache but in fact was more serious, and said you should be very careful before using it. If you have any problems with your back even just a bit of backache, check with your doctor before using it. Unfortunately the lady that does Power plate here has no medical qualifications so is not able to give a correct diagnosis as to whether you should use it or not. I know some people love it, but all I am saying is just be careful.

Hi Claire

I have been going to PP since mid November. It's a 15 min session of different exercises which tone up your muscles. They say it is equivilent to 1.5 hours at the gym!!! I have lost 1-2 dress sizes since starting ( I needed too!!) and my body shape is much more defined. It doesn't give you a work out like a cardio one so I also walk and swim a lot to compliment it. I think its great and I am one of those who detests exercise. Jeannette who runs to studio on the road to the New Harbour is great and has loads of patience especially with people like me who are not used to exercise. Give her a ring and have a chat she will explain all the ins/outs - she did her training in London- 0533 8474151.

Good luck

Tracey

Hi Tracey

How long did it take you to drop the 1-2 dress sizes, and how much are the sessions? Also how often should you go per week?

Thanks in advance

Michelle

I go to a lady in Girne she is excellent and the views are spectacular right on the sea front so you get a sea breeze. Her number is 0533 8356036 name Figen. She is very good. if you need directions let me know its very easy.

Would Highly recommend her

There are quite a few contra-indications with power plate use, it's not just people with bad backs that need to be careful. Google it and you will read the hype, but also the facts. It is still a relatively new product for fitness, previously only being used for rehab. and physio patients under medical supervision. Sustained, regular use for fitness, has not been tested, and the jury is out on possible side effects. This, combined with the fact that production has increased, and newer, cheaper models are arriving from the far east...how do you know that the machine is callibrated properly?

At the end of the day, there is no substitute for a healthy diet and regular, aerobic and resistance exercise, in a controlled environment with qualified fitness trainers, to keep fit and healthy.

As Tracy says it's not a 'workout,' so if you want to loose weight, another form of calorie burning is required.

If you live in the west have you not seen the range of fitness classes at The Black Olive Studio in Alsancak?

Yes, I do remember seeing something about them but the times weren't suitable if I remember rightly. Also the whole point is that I don't like doing exercise so I was looking for something that wasn't going to turn me into a sweaty heap ie. water aerobics or possibly the power plate.

I believe Aqua Aerobics is starting soon somewhere in Lapta. Whoever is doing it said they will put it on the board when it is starting. I also want to go to that/
