Anyone out there wanting a job as a ticket seller in the old harbour? You get commission on every ticket sold and you would be based at the old harbour. Preferably someone willing to work most days. You must be legal to work here, with a work permit. kimlik etc. You must speak good English and a little Turkish would be great. Probably suit a student but would be willing to discuss the position with any hard working person. Excellent earning potential if you are a good seller. for further info please contact Phil 0533 8735456

We did not ask for a 'tout' as you so wittingly put it (not!). However this is a genuine request for someone who wants to earn some money in a totally legitimate way. Probably best you don't go to the harbour as you obviously don't like it there, but there are some folk who do. Cheers and thank you for your helpful remarks.

Might know someone, Do you or your company supply the work permit ? If not, how do people go about getting one ? I have heard that the company you work for supplies the work permit and they are not transferable. Might be wrong though.

Hi Roisin, The boat would not pay for the work permit. The ticket sellers usually buy their own and works out about 300tl per month, however if you sold 20 tickets per day you would earn 100 GBP. Work permits are not transferable. To be honest the person you are thinking of may find it extremely difficult to get a work permit, as the Government prefer the work to go to locals. If they are still interested please ask them to give us a call. Many thanks for your interest. Phil

Right then, just to clarify philnles, job is not really being a 'tout', you just approach people and ask if they want to buy boat trip tickets. If they don't sell, no pay. You don't actually employ them of course, they have to somehow obtain a work permit which you say they probably won't get if they are not local, which might just tempt them to work without one and if they got caught you can, like the secret service, deny all knowledge. Not quite sure if they are therefore in the category of earning in a perfectly legitimate way as you say. Probably best as you say for me to avoid the harbour and leave it to those who do, which is probably the boat owners.

Phil how can you do this. You know everybody needs a permit. How can you advertise a position to have somebody live in fear. You know in the harbour they do check. Do it legallly and you will have more buisness. This makes me so sad to explote people in this way when they do not know any difference and could be deported

All I've done is ask if somebody wants to sell boat tickets ! I have said its best if a local person sells the tickets. A student can work for a certain number of hours, as long as they have a student card, it's ok to work. Also, somebody on this site may know of a Cypriot who might be interested. If we don't employ a local we have to lodge 1000 euros with the bank, being as we are not locals we have to leave a large amount of money in the bank to cover our taxes, just in case we decide to leave the country. I am in no way going to employ anyone illegally, as you point out out they do check up, if we employ someone illegally we would be fined 2000 lira, you are welcome to pop down to our boat and check all our paperwork, our boat is 100% legal. If you are not interested or do not know of anyone who is, there is no need to make false accusations. Thank you.
