Problems in the Eurozone is what is been predicted. I have received forecast that sterling will hit 1.27 to Euro by the end of September. These forecast have changed on a regular basis so you cant bank on them being right. As all the best ads say 'terms and conditions apply'

eager. I feel that out of all the European economies the UK is the strongest. Furthermore I feel that the UK will be the first country to 'rise' out of the recession the world is suffering at the moment. The £ is getting stronger now against both the $ and the Euro. I haven't got a crystal ball but I think you'll see a major turn-around in the UK economy in the first quarter of next year. If I'm wrong you can buy me a drink.

Should be over 3Tl-£ but the Turkish Central Bank keeps intervening to prop up the Lira hence the IMF problems in giving a further loan.

I would be worried if i was holding all my money in TL as i can see it going over the 3TL to £ as Turkey are just proping up the TL thru IMF loan's.

This will not last forever and when the TL slides it will be fast....this is why you can get + - 20% interest with banks in NC when you change your pound's to TL......i know for the last 3 yrs it has fluctuated between 2,2 and 2,7 and good luck to anyone who has made money over the last 3 yrs but be aware the TL is only going one way!!!

i wish i knew the answer to that question.... but what i do know is sterling will become stronger and it just depend's on how long the Turkish bank can continue to borrow large amount's of money from the IMF to prop up the TL

Ask yourself the question: Why do the bank's give you a return of + - 20% on TL????

Answer: Because they consider it high risk.

It is worth remembering that if you are changing your money through the bank(s) you will not get the same rate as that advertised on XE.com. For example, XE currently showing £ - TL at 2.42 whereas rate at Creditwest is 2.37. I have noticed that normally the bank will pay an exchange rate that is approx 0.04 TL less than the rate on XE. If going TL - £, bank rate will normally be approx 0.02 TL less than XE. Afraid I can't comment on what the other banks pay as most of my dosh is with Creditwest.

Regards

Paul

The hiccup in all of this is rising unemployment and all of the time it is rising then the recession will continue and I see it getting worse rather than better. Worst ever loss for BA just posted and you can bet your bottom dollar they will be laying off a lot of staff soon with a lot of other major businesses still to follow.

i tend to agree with what you say.

ive read somwere that england will be the first country to come out of this recession.

maybe true. but in the next 5 years maybe.

i truly think it will be 5 to 8 years before everything levels out.

more problems ahead when the banks interest rates have to be put up again.

All this money the goverment are throwing around has to be repaid some way and in the future.

Think Britain will be slow to come out of this recession, has borrowed up to the hilt, the near future is higher interest rates, higher taxes, and a reduction in public spending. Green shoots maybe in 4/5 years.

zerochlor, Not playing for millions but a few hundred k, decided to take a punt and take advantage of what is on offer, buy 2.7....sell 2.3 x a decent amount + interest and it adds up. Not gloating just facts, rather than leaving it in uk @ 1 - 2%

I have always maintained that it will be a minimum of 3 years/maximum of 5 for the UK to fully recover from the recession but the more I look at it then 5 years seems more likely. The main indicators are unemployment and home repossessions. When these figures bottom out then there will be another 3 years before things start to get back to normal. There will always be 'blips' in all indicators during a recession but these should be ignored and people should look at long term trends. Ignore all of the talk of 'green shoot revival' as these are the blips that everyone likes to talk up but ultimately do not bear any credence.

I expect it will plummet as we get there towards the end of July. But never mind, soon we will be there for long stretches and I will let husband have a little play with exchanging from st to TL. Will probably be sitting with a begging bowl on Girne High Street by Christmas.

Where are people changing their money? My nana is coming on Sunday and want to obviously take her to the place that does the best rate. Also why is it that XE always say the rate is higher than what Kibris Gazette says? I never know which one is right and which is wrong

A word of caution. High savings rates may = Higher risk. You pay your money and take your choice.

The rates of exchange that I have seen quoted here are probably Interbank or Spot Rates.

They are not what you will get for your Pound. Also this rate may be for you to buy sterling not Lira.

Try Oanda for rates as you can choose variables on margins and currencies.
