I know this is an old chestnut and I have read lots of posts on it and having opened an account with the bank in the TRNC most reccommended I am told that I cannot have my MOD pension paid directly into my account, is this right? I should like to cut all ties with the UK banking system and just use the banks in TRNC. Is this possible or will I have to retain a UK bank account just to take the money in to pay it out again?

No halffull, that is not corect. My MOD pension was paid into my TRNC account, along with a small private pension. What I could not have paid to a TRNC bank was my state retirement pension, though now that I am in Europe again I can have it paid to my German account. Not sure what the parameters are, but I assume that the pension service will not pay to banks outside Europe.

Thanks kaiserphil, without trying to get some sense out of the MOD pension service, I was sure I could have my MOD pension paid where I wanted.

Hi decannddyl, mine is paid by the dreaded 'Crapita', whoops sorry, I mean Capita. Who seem to have been awarded all the government and local government contracts going over the past several years! They obviously have 'friends in high places'!

kaiserphil, I know how you feel it was only when I moved over here that I was informed that the Army Pension Office in Glasgow were not dealing with my pensions any more and it had been sub contracted,at least when speaking to the Army Pension Office they had some inclination of who they were dealing with and now whenn I need something I get passed from pillar to post. Thankfully all my problems resolved now!!

I know what you mean decanddyl, nothing better than the personal touch. It was the same with MROs, when various offices 'looked after' a limited number of corps/regiments. What it was like after they were centralised in Glasgow I don't know. I have seen Capita in action in a local authority, where they were busily engaged in clawing-in council tax, and deferring claims for council tax, etc benefit.

Thanks or all that, I think my Navy pension is handled by Xifinity so I should be OK. Sounds like we should start a branch of the British Legion!!
