| "Stopaj" stopping the money at source. Let me explain with some examples: I pay 4% "Stopaj" for goods I import. Suppose at the end of the year, the income tax payable on my earnings is 10,000 TL. If I paid 4,000 TL Stopaj, I have to pay only 6000 TL. So Stopaj is really payment of income tax in advance to be taken into account when settling my income tax later in the year. I think it works in the same manner with Stopaj paid on sales of property. It is paid by the seller. I think the professional sellers (those selling more than 3 properties in a year) pay 6.25% Stopaj. I never sold any property so I do not really have first hand experience on it. ismet |
