Can anyone point me to any good (accessible by car) snorkeling sites in TRNC, especially (but not exclusively) East of Girne?

Not looking for anything too technical as also have children age 12, although they are pretty experienced + club swimmers.

For instance, good example being in the South at Cape Greco nr Ayia Napa (spelling?) is great as water is accessible from rocky shoreline & water 10-20 feet deep within few feet of waters edge.

Usually sandy beaches are very shallow water & visibility is restricted. Although the beautiful (my favourite!!) beach is on the North side of Kapras outside Dipkarpaz (Ayios Philon?) which has interesting rocks & deepish water close to the shore with lots of marine life going on.

Can anyone recommend anyhwere else? General location welcome, GPS coordinates even better!

Hi there,

Not sure about the east side but west there is good snorkelling off the rocks at "Silver Rocks" (Bar/Restaurant) in Lapta and also "The Hut" (Bar/Restaurant) was a good spot, also in Lapta.

Hope this helps.

If you go to Kapliça beach and walk to the far east end of the beach there are some beautiful ribs of rock which have some great snorkelling - there are giant rock pools (between 1m and 20m deep!) Each one is approximately 100m long and are approximately 3-5m wide... Really lovely. Have seen octopus, turtles etc... Lovely spot. There is another similar spot a little further on but not as accessible...

Would highly recommend it!

the kormacit tip, on the far left of the island is superior. BUT: do not swimm far out, currents made even me struggle, they just meet 50 m infront of the tip and if unlucky directly pull you out to the open seas.. these currents are also the reason for lots of fish and a healthy marine life. did some of my best underwater pictures there, even watched dolphins hunting a swarm of fish just on the shoreline, not even 5 m awway of the coast. if realy realy lucky even harmles sharks can be seen.. good luck.. the same is for the carpaz tip, dont swim to far out.. next stop would be the island infornt of the tip....
