What did you do Nick, show them a photo of her? I bet that sorted them out. Perhapos you can give us all a photo of her so that next time we get pestered we'll just show a photo of her.

I wouldn't let them bother you. I always smile and pat my stomach and say I've already eaten. That always does the trick.

Laws? Haha cypriots dont do laws. They do what they want!! Everything is optional. Such as red lights, one way streets, indicators and driving under the influence. They certainly aren't going to listen to the law that states you cant hassle tourists! As terribly annoying as it is, i can understand why they are so pushy, its the only way they make their money i suppose.

Except it's having the opposite effect. We stay away because of the touting.

True. I wonder what the tourists get told about eating in the harbour? The ones I see getting off coaches in the main car park.

Who knows. Eating at the harbour is nice though. Yes, most of the menus are the same and although its a little pricey for locals like me to go every night, its reasonable for tourists, its such a lovely place to sit and eat though. I suppose tourists expect there to be touting anyway, there is touting everywhere you go. Especially in places like here, Turkey and Greece

It is a shame they are so pushy though, if only they could ask, take no for an answer and leave it at that. They would find more people going down there.

Someone should do a secret vidio and get it on UTUBE let the world know to stay away from the rip off merchants at Kyrenia harbour with no price lists.

Maybe i just dont feel as strongly as all of you, but i feel making a video and putting it on youtube is going a bit far!!! If you go to a holiday destination, you know your gonna get hassled! You get the guys that want you to eat at their restaurants, the guys that want you to go to their club, the guys who want you to buy their clothes from their shops and the looky looky men who want you to buy anything they have hidden in their jackets! This is a country where the only time tourists come is summer. They are gonna try extra hard to make some cash. Yes they go the wrong way about it because reality is, its a pain in the arse. But it clearly works as in the summer the harbour is packed. Tourists expect it. And locals know better. Simple as that.

And to be fair, they arent really getting ripped off, i have seen menus where you get a 2 course meal, brandy, tea or coffee for 25lira. And with a pretty setting like that, its not that pricey.

Has anyone actually eaten at any of the restaurants in the harbour as to be able to recommend any one in particular?

Hector I've eaten at Cherinis (the first one nearest the castle) and the Harbour Club (on the jetty) recently. I've always had a good meal, fillet steak in one and meze and grilled fish a couple of times. I also think it's reasonably priced at about 25TL for a set meal.

I find a smile and a no thank you works very well and have never been really hassled other than the usual would you like to have a meal/drink type thing. I have, however, heard plenty of Brits being very very rude to the waiters. I'm afraid it happens all over the world in tourist destinations.

My wife always answers politely in Turkish to the waiters, most appreciate it but the tall one tonight at the restaurant near the play area became irritated and repeatedly said 'I can speak English you know!' Next time we will test his knowledge of Olde English!

Hi all, just spent the day down town, with daughter and grandchildren, enjoyed the walk round the Harbor and was not bothered at all, everyone very friendly and polite,we were not harassed to either eat or drink.!! and we did neither.

Last year we went, and were not happy with the food at all,or the price.we returned the food and told them so...and just paid for our drinks, and starters. It was cold, dry with no taste,so hence we had no intention of eating.!!

But what a lovely place it is,we walked, took photos and the children enjoyed the little play park,

Yes a perfect day,and one to remember.
