Can anyone advise me on the normality of this in NC. I was originally coming back at the end of June and booked a resort on the east of Kyrenia for 2 rooms. I have managed to get a long term rental now which is available for me in June so don't need the resort rooms anymore. I e-mailed to cancel and was ignored. I called about it and was told it would be 6 months or probably 10 before they would give me my money back. I was told the manager would call me back after saying that I didn't understand this. Got no call so e-mailed again. Still haven't recieved any info. I was hoping someone might be able to advise me on this before I take it further. Thanks, Paul

I was under the impression that because I paid with a credit card the company can get the money back. I need to sort it out though or I may have to invite a friend to use it and try and get some cash back

I would imagine if you contact the credit card Co, ASAP they will be able to put more pressure on them than you. Maybe they think, in time you'll give up!

Thanks Navek, I thought the same thing but will leave it till tomorrow in case any one else has experienced similar problems in NC and can suggest the best direction to go. I wasn't sure if the lady I talked to on the phone was telling me I could keep the booking for 6 to 10 months but didn't explain it well, hence the second mail to ask for clarification but they haven't even written back. Maybe they do hope I'll forget it but its a lot of money.

Have a look at the resorts website and any correspondence/email that they may have sent you. You're looking for a cancellation policy. If there is one, they're obligated to stick to it and your credit card company will refund you then pursue them on your behalf if they don't. If there isn't, as Navek says, you're pretty much up s*** creek!

You need the original terms and conditions of the booking that were available, or should have been, from the place that you booked it. If you booked through the hotels website then there should have been a tick box that says you "have read the terms and conditions of booking and agree to them." If there was no box to tick or terms and conditions on booking conditions then you have a clear cut case to have your monies refunded, or so you would think. Under European Law that would be so, but we are dealing with a country that isn't recognised so using Eurpoean Law as your mitigation cannot apply. Your only hope is to contact a solicitor in the TRNC and hope that a letter or 2 from him will result in a refund. If not, then you'll have to take them to court. If you booked through a travel agent, or a third party company, eg, Hotel.com or lastminute.com, then it is there responsibility to ensure that you are refunded.

Your credit card company will be sympathetic but they will also need to terms and conditions of which you booked under bedfore they can issue you a refund. They must be sure that they are doing the correct thing otherwise the hotel can actually take them to court and they will get a huge payout. If you cannot get a refund from the credit card company, a note will be added to their credit file and this will lower their credit assesment record. To many complaints and credit will be withdrawn, thus, in theory, causing the business great difficulty in trading and may lead to bankruptcy.

Sorry but welcome to North Cyprus where customer service rarely rears its head! You need to pursue through the credit card company rather than waste time & money phoning & e-mailing the hotel.

Should have used an agency. Same rate but responsibility theirs. No doubt you believed you were getting a good deal. Cutting corners can always be costly.

Doubt if he will have any success with CC either. They will say that their agent,IE. hotel, provided the service for which he paid, there fore fulfiling their obligation to him. They will then pass him back to the hotel to see if and what the T/C,s say about cancellations. bestof luck chum, been down that road and lost, fortunitely was not for a large sum....

Thanks to all. Coachie, No offence meant but most of the time I get a little confused by your postings but in this case you are bang on the button. CC company need some sort of letter from the Hotel agreeing about the cancellation which I am certain they will not give me. Completely my fault for not reading all the fine print which states about no refunds however in my defence it is on the home page that you find the policy but there is no mention of it after you have selected online booking. Cyprusraider, If I was looking for the best deal I would not have booked this hotel and I tried to go through a booking agent but it would only let me book 1 room at a time. It's a conspiravy I tell you !!!! I am going to try to get the hotel to compromise and let me extend the period for booking and I will be able to use it if friends come over. The irony is that this hotel is only about 500 metres from our villa and would have been the one we would use for visitors to stay, thats changed.

Hi.....suggest contacting the your card company for advice....if they cannot help ....i would turn up at the hotel when you visit...and speak directly to them. meanwhile....suggest you email them from a different email address enquiring about availablity for the dates you have booked...when you get an answer....reply...asking about their policy for cancellation ( just in case it is required) before booking.....this will give you something in writing...you will be able to work on. good luck

If their cancellation policy cleary states they will not give a refund then you will have no chance with your CC company. However, you will have spent more money sending them all the information they require to tell you this so you will be worse off. If I was you I would try again to find out about the 6-10 month thing that was mentioned in your 1st message. It may well be that you can still use the booking in the future. Good luck.

I am allready trying to work on extending the time period to use the rooms and to see if I can use them on either seperate weeks or 1 room for double the period of time or therabouts. I will need to confirm that this is OK with the hotel and then I will be able to offer it to friends and family for the future, but thanks again to all advice. Paul

I think some of you have miss one point here, the first message stated that the hotel would refund the money but it would take 6-10 months, I realise this is a pain but at least they have said you will get the money back, even if it states that they have a no refund policiy. I would keep trying to talk to some one in accounts at the hotel, as well as the Manager to speed up the process. Think positive, don't start talking legal action until you are sure that you will not recieve the refund Angela

Angela, Although the lady did say it would take 6 to 10 months, I am starting to believe that she was not telling me I would get the money back after that time but instead was offering to extend the booking by up to that length of time. I will of course get clarification but I will need to get someone to talk to me from the hotel in order to do that. Paul
