I've just watched an item on the BBC news in the UK which claimed that 'dozens' of MP's are considering standing down at the next election. In no way do I support any MP who claimed expenses of the kind we've seen in recent weeks, but, you have to wonder what will happen next.

If we make being an MP unattractive from a financial point of view (none of us would take a job that paid less than we currently receive or need to live on) are we likely to get a parliament populated by the wealthy who are completely cut off from the reality of daily living that most of us face?

Solutions on a postcard to Gordon Brown please!

Andy. You can see what these politicians are trying to do - turn the whole thing round back to joe public. They've probably all discussed this and decided to multiple resign in the knowledge that joe public will panic and cry out for 'whose going to run the country if they all resign?'

It's a 'get-up'. Let the thieves resign, there are sure to be plenty more to take the jobs on and find another scam to rip us all off.

I hope you're right, but it still worries me. There's an old saying - Pay peanuts and you'll get monkeys.

Just been on SKY news, the MP's who are to resign and step down before the next election will still be allowed to draw their pay and expences up to the elections next year, in addition they will also be getting a golden handshake of about £120.000, and a yearly pension of between £35.000 - £65.000 a year depending on time served, a discrace, more snouts in the trough

Civil Servants can only claim full pension when they are age 60 - prior to that they lose in the region of 5% of pension per year up to age 60. Retire at 55 and you lose 25% pension and so on.

There had better not be a sudden full pension payment made to these highly paid thieves if they are below age 60 when they resign/retire or the Unions will call every other civil servant in the land out on strike - bet on it!

Only in the government can you defraud the public purse, get rewarded for doing it, retire early and still earn more than the normal person in the street who pays their wages anyway. Whatever happened to the legal system to keep these people off the streets and away from the taxes we all pay?

Charge them with Theft and fraud, then send them to jail, but most of all make them pay the money back they have stolen from us, the tax payers

Mess 10. They have the money ready because it is the wages they haven't needed to spend.
