I received some really good news last week, my voluntary redundany has been accepted.

I have worked for the same company for 35 years and decided that the time is right to say goodbye, and leave whlle the offer was available.

I work my last shift tomorrow, and after a few months sorting things out here in Doncaster will be back in TRNC for 3 months from Aug 19th. Home for Christmas, then see what happens next year.

I've got the champagne in the fridge for tomorow evening.

Good luck m8.

You have done the right thing,I did the same back in March 2008,took the lump sum, moved here full time in March this year.

Scary at first not having the security of the job after 30 years in my case, but it soon passes.

Now you can begin to live for you !!!

Good luck Suntanman.

To others who are thinking of accepting voluntary redundancy, first please make sure that you can live off the money for at least 6 months. The DWP are cracking down and will not accept any claims for Jobseekers Allowance or Income Support for upto 6 months as you voluntairily made yourself unemployed. As for Housing Benefit too you may find yourself having to appeal due to the stricter tightening of the rules.

Also if you accept redundancy don't go out and spend the money and then claim you're peniless so they have to pay you. There is a clause that says that if you spend the money recklessly they don't have to bail you out.

Think carefully before accepting Voluntary Redundancy. If you are made Complusory Redundant then there is no problem and claiming benefits is not a problem.

Andrew

Very best of luck with the retirement.

I 'retired' last year at the ripe old age of 45 and am absolutely loving it. I can't recommend it highly enough

Best Wishes

I'd rather do the ironing than what I have had to do for the last 35 years.
