Hollie Steel, that poor child broke down at the beginning of her song, the strain for a 10 year old is clearly too much! However what would you do if you were her parents, on the one hand it's her dream, on the other the stress is too much.

She was given a second chance and is now through to the final tonight.

P.S If anyone wants to see her second chance let me know.

Another 'pushy' mum! The kid will have psychological problems when she gets older.

Little Holly's breakdown last night made me feel real bad. My own reaction would have been to get my kid off!

Dont know what would have been the right way, just I felt very uncomfortable after her breakdown and feel very uncomfortable regarding her going on, plus is she going to feel so much pressure IF she gets through to preform infront of the Queen and again breaks down, could we all be encouraging child abuse??? dont know, lol x

Morning Glady's, That is exactly what I thought, if she breaks down here, what will happen with the pressure of going in front of the Queen, I feel that the judges had no option but to put her through, no one want's a crying child on their hands.

Maybe I'm too cynical.....but kids can be very manipulative.....and stage school kids are even better at it.

Morning britvic, just do not know how a mum or the judges come to that, could encourage her to go on!! perhaps in a couple of years she will be more able to overcome her nerves, but at this present time, I have my grave doupts for her and some of these kids that dont win.

I have always encouraged competition in my own kids, but I am at a loss to know what would be the best way forward for that little girl. lol x

Just a thought again, the parenting of today seems to encourage kids to want every thing even if its not good in the long run. Once parents would have said, no, I dont think you should carry on, in fact, no you are NOT going to carry on. Its a situation where kids rule again, perhaps this is why schools, etc have a problem, the parents cannot put security into the kids lifes any more, a give-in society. Just my own thoughts, lol x

All I know is, if it was my child I would have been on that stage quicker than lightning, BEFORE she got in that state, after all you could see and hear what was happening before she broke down.

This really opens the flood gates to all who make a cock up on the night. You'll get a second chance.

The girl fluffed it and that should have been it.

I myself have appeared at many Music Festivals as an adult and as a child. We got one chance. If it worked it worked. If it didn't we were marked down accordingly.

Simon Cowell gets his way again by giving her a second chance, knowing that she would get the British Public sympathy vote. It really was the decision of the Producer and Director on the night as to what could happen. They said no, but in the end gave in because of Simon Cowell. I just hope that Syco Productions are now fined for allowing their programme to over run by 3 minutes thus making the News At Ten the News At Five Past Ten!

Another pushy Mum. Too much for that little girl, it was distressing.

No, she was not "putting it on"

Had a friend once whose mother used to pinch her all the way home

if she didn't win at music festivals. She was very good too, but didn't

become a concert pianist - married and had lots of kids!

My favourite 'fluffed' it too, and he knew it, didn't ask for a second chance though.

Have just read in the Daily Mail's supplement that Hollie Steel, according to her mother "is a sensitive little child.............. she has to have encouragement before she thinks she's good...................I've decided not to let her watch any of the other performers because, if she does, she'll think she's rubbish...........................Since she's been on the show things have got better at school................she'd been having problems with a couple of girls................being bullied..................etc.etc.

And the icing on the cake? "We want her to get some sort of record deal and release an album"

I rest my case.

We may be 'pathetic moronics' in your eyes, but you need to ask yourself if you like to see weeping ten year olds who in most 'grown up' eyes should have been pulled out and not made to humiliate herself or given into. There were much better kids that were not given another chance. One rule for one, just like our M.P.s! It starts a president again to those who want something, and 'I will have'.

Quarmby, I have spoken with a lot of mums/dads this morning and they feel the same as most as the posts on here! lol x

Hi The-Wicks, yes agree with you, sensitive kids and all that, parents have a responcibility that is sadly lacking in a lot these days. lol x

I think it's very irresponsible for these parents to push their children like this. If anyone has stood on the sidelines of a kids football match and heard some of the fathers screeching at their kids, I'm sure lots of parents would find it absolutely cringe-making.

I think the most pathetic thing is that, in my opinion, it's parents trying to live their lives through their children.

I feel sorry for the mum because she has a sensitive child with a huge talent who wants this dream so does she say no and be resented in years to come or try and help her child to achieve her dreams. We can all sit in judgement but that buisness is a tough one to get into and at least Holly was brave enough to go back a second time and pull it off.

nico44 - I think we'll have to agree to disagree. 'Huge' talent? I personally don't think so; I think she's a cute little girl with a decent voice, but I would say I've seen and heard better, and, on this particular show. Still, it would be a funny old world if we all liked the same things

lol wicks quite honestly " Its only a game show " and as you said every one has an opinion and next week it will be something else . But having my own talented child in sports I have seen it all and he had to cope with it and get on with it and it has made him a lot stronger in character hes learnt to fight for it or loose it but the most important thing is he had to learn how to loose before he could win. I have never pushed him just helped him ( and payed lol) so who knows wicks !!!

nico44 - I do take your point, but there is a difference between 'encouraging' and 'pushing'. I assume your son/daughter competed on an "even playing field" - no pun intended - against his/her peers? I very much agree with competition. I think it inspires children on. However, I think this instance is completely different. If a grown woman like Susan Boyle is feeling the pressure, albeit, only a game show, how would you say a 'sensitive' child (as her mother says) will take it if/when she loses? Life teaches us some harsh lessons, but this kiddie is only 10 - she hasn't yet had time to realise that "you win some, you lose some" and then you move on.

It's just a difference of opinion.

wicks i agree with you with most of what you say and it is just a difference of opinions. my lad was 10 when he started his sport and no it wasnt an even playing field, he also was bullied the point i was trying to make is that Holly has more grit than appears behind the tears and i think her mum knows this she seems a very determined child and proved this by doing it perfectly the second time . and Susan Boyle has a disorder bless her i think anyone would be pressured under those curcumstrances so wicks we do as you suggested agree to disagree on some of the points nic

If the little girl was really as distressed as she appeared she should not be put through it again no matter what she says, at only ten she will have plenty more opportunities to display her talent which is not as good yet as it may be anyway when she is a little older and she will with a loving cuddle get over her disappointment I’m sure.

If her distress was brought on by the fact that she felt she messed up and wanted to have another try then we really should not encourage that either.

If it was planned just to start this sort of sympathy vote equally that is wrong.

Therefore I cannot see why she went through knocking out a young man that does have an unusual talent even though through inexperience did mess up a bit on the night. He would have been justified in stamping his feet and crying being knocked out as he was by a distressed child but we would not have accepted that as okay!!

Why did she get a second chance? No one else did!

Tears? real or effect?(They Worked!)

Pressure? can't take it!(Get out of the kitchen comes to mind)

Pushy Mum? definitely, she is also an actress, daughter recognised her from some soap! (Good job Mummy stopped the tamtrum developing or she would have lost the sympathy vote!!)

Should she be in the final? NO!NO! NO!

But she certainly knew how to get the sympathy vote and Simon is a sucker for kids!! (Should get some of his own!)

We sang the two songs Susan sang last two weeks, in a choir I

was in (until it had to fold) and they are not easy to sing, I can tell you.

But they are beautiful, and she knows what suits her, and how to sing them.

I do agree about Holly's 2nd chance depriving that young talented singer (even

if Simon couldn't make him out) but it seems Simon calls the shots!
