Land is being cleared near us (obviously for building) and it is right next to a ravine. I am sure that I read a while ago that building within 30 metres of a ravine is not now permitted Can anyone confirm this? If someone obtained permission prior to change does that mean that they are free to continue?

I would like to visit the Planning Office. Is it is girne? If so where?

I must say that this development does not affect us but our neighbours are worried.

The back of our villa at Sweetwater Bay is next to a ravine and we have been told in no uncertain terms that building is not allowed - but this information is from the developer.

I would have thought there must be a planning office in the same run of buildings where the post office and courts are.

Is the kaymakamlik office the planning office?

If so I have seen this upstairs above the Land office.

Not a 100% sure though!

PS

Flossie if you do get there and find anything out, I would be interested to hear as I think something may be happening near where I live but just rumours at the mo.

Btw

The Girne Kaymakamlik was relocated to a brand new building on 9th April 2008, beyond & next to the Girne State Hospital on the Pia Bella hotel side. New white building on the corner. See this link.

Thanks scruff for the info, I may just go down there myself to enquire generally about building near ravines.

The building permission could have been granted before restrictions were introduced - this is most likely the case

Flossie,

I would be interested in your outcome after your visit if you wouldn't mind posting the guidelines on the forum.

I too had purchased land right on a ravine , i obtained building permits prior to the aforementioned ban , hence i still have the rights to construct there although i havnt started building.
