Anyone spotted Glass storage Kilner jars in any of the supermarkets or houseware shops?

The type with the rubber seal around the top and a snap glass lid.

Cheers

The Kilner Jar does not have a glass snap on lid similar to the stopper on a Grolsh beer bottle. A kilner jar has a 2 piece screw lid. Ask Jerramy Clarkston from top gear.

I thought Kilner Jars went out with valve radios, gramaphones, milk churns and clothes mangles.

Are you opening a museum?

Cheers Lem

A museum would be a good idea for the island. There are plenty of living examples of fossils wandering around that would drawer an onlooker or two!!

I agree that the early Kilner jars were indeed of the screw type but into the early ‘70s they were superseded by the mass produced sprung lock lid type.

I just prefer these for my pickles/chutneys and dips.

All Kilner jars have a screw top lid. They are still produced in Indonesia. The ones with the snap sprung lock lid are not Kilner. Mr Clarkson from Top Gear is a decendant of the Kilner family and a TV documentary was made about his search for his roots. he found the now owner of the Kilner brand in Cheshire but there was no inheritance waiting for him. He also thought that a Kilner jar was the one with the sprung lid.
