216 passengers and crew are missing, they are not sure if it was bad weather just yet, they had no May Day calls but just vanished off the air

The poor families waiting for news of their loved ones is so tragic

They have just announced that it was probably struck by Lightning

BBC News are saying that the plane reported (using an automated system) that it was suffering from a 'short circuit', and that if it had not suffered some kind of catastrophic failure there would have been time for the crew to have made contact.

French authorities say that it would have run out of fuel by now had it still been flying and that they don't hold out much hope.

Horrible.

Have just heard that the father of three of my ex-pupils was on the plane. Devastating for the Whitby family.
