i would like to bring to all your attention a problem that I encountered with the above named man (Mr M Leahy). In an act of kindness on my behalf I allowed Mr Leahy to rent out my place in northern Cyprus on the grounds that all bills be paid by him and any other charges that occured during the time he was there. In the last few months it has been brought to my attention that Mr Leahy and family have vacated my property without giving me any warning of there movements. He has run up electric and water bills which I am left to foot the bill for and also handed over the keys to the property to someone not known to me. Seeing as I am in the UK at present I asked a friend to enter the place and get the locks changed only for him to find the property had been left in a complete mess and run down state. So in warning, do not rent your property out to this person or listen to his sob stories as he is a fraudster.

He was a friend of a friend and gave the whole sob story of being thrown out of his other place saying that the womans daughter needed the property. He said he was hard up for money and because he had a young child and a good reference from my friend I allowed him to go in without any deposit paid. Obviously I now see I shouldn't have done this but at the time I thought I was helping someone in need. All I know is that he is a financial advisor, known to be in the kyrenia area and he drinks in the Soho bar. He is well built and Spanish and around the late 30's in age. He has a Russian wife and daughter.

Well i doubt there are many well built spanish blokes called michael who is married to a russian lady and drinks in the Soho bar when he isnt working as a financial advisor. So fingers crossed someone will know who he is and hunt him down for you. Thats terrible though, you helped him out when you thought he needed it, didnt ask for a deposit and he trashes your flat and moves out. I'll ask about to see if anyone i know knows him. Good luck in finding the jerk.

I am unable to fly over as am in ill health and to this day I do not know if he has taken anything of my own property. I do know that he came to England for a short period in february and after many e-mails to him I finally got an abrupt reply saying I should stop hassling him about the bills and worry about my health instead.

kaz it is so horrible to be taken advantage of. the sad thing is here in cyprus it has happened to me so many times,i have trusted people or helped them out and they have done shitty things to me, stolen from me or stabbed me in the back. its a sad fact of life here ,instead of helping each other and working together some less nice people have to behave like this.

I know this man too as he came to me as a financial advisor, I am very glad I did not take his advice as it seems from this post that he can't handle his own finances very well. I have also heard he is selling property in the north so please be careful when buying anything. He comes accross as a very kind hearted and caring family man. I would say he is of Spanish origin and is of very broad build, his wife is russian and they have a young daughter.

Leahy is obviously an Irish name, but as someone else said, they felt he was possibly of Spanish origin. Kaz, I feel so sorry for you. What does your friend who supplied the reference say about all this? Regards J

NEVER RENT YOUR PROPERTY OUT IF YOUR AWAY FROM THE COUNTRY. ITS A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. SOME PEOPLE HAVE MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN RENTING PROPERTY. SOMETIMES ITS BETTER TO KEEP THE PROPERTY RATHER THAN QUICKLY LETTING IT OUT. DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO GET BAD TENANTS OUT THROUGH THE LEGAL PROCESS IN THE TRNC? IT TAKES ONE YEAR!!!

Maybe as part of a contract when renting, a photo should be taken? Then if the tenants do what they have done here, we can all see what they look like.
