Probably Symantec - I have always found it to be a nightmare as it stops affiliate links etc.

Or are you a frequenter of some of the more noxious sites?

sometimes when you go into a site malware is downloaded that induces problems into your computer and then pretends it is a security programme that can get rid of the problems if you subscribe.

These programmes are clever they can deny you access to control panel ,internet to download spyware/malware detectors and basically any method that will enable you to get rid of the programme such as deleteing ,system restore etc. Security System such one.I have just got rid of it from friends computer and it aint easy.Sometimes the only way is to dump the hard drive. So far this year I have known of another one on brothers computer and one on daughters.

Never ever go onto the internet without virus checkers and also run ad-ware ,malwarebyte,Spybot ,now and again

If your computer warns you of a blocked site or such like then do not proceed.

You've been hacked. It was probably on the back of something that you downloaded and your Virus Checker and Firewall either missed or you inadvertantly over rode the caution that appeared from the Virus Checker/Firewall.

You can try the free downloads of Malware, Ad-ware and Spybot to try and resolve the situation. If they fail to detect and remove then it will be a full reinstall. So make sure that all your data is backed up to CD's or DVD's before the reinstall.

But most important, DON'T FALL DEEPER INTO THEIR TRAP BY ACCEPTING THEIR OFFER.

we had both our computers cleaned up last year, the guy said that if one of these false systems,ie,spyware etc starts downloading, then make sure you hit the ,alt, ctrl, delete buttons a couple of times simultanously, this will at least stop it before it downloads with the virus, you need to be quick though, not much help i know if its already corrupted and fully downloaded, but it'll stop it happening again.
