My husband and I are looking at property in karsiyaka, Ozenkoy, Bellapais and Esentepe, and would like to know what facilities are in these areas eg restaurants, bars, shops etc. I also have a 18 year old daughter who would like a little more excitement. Are there any clubs etc in the area?

I have picked up so much information from this site, thank you to all the contributors. Looking forward to some interesting replies.

Hi Inver

Welcome.

I can only answer for Esentepe.

There's not too much for an 18 year old to do in my opinion. The clubs you see around are not clubs as we know them and I don't think you would like your daughter to visit one as they're strip clubs (which is why the majority are located in the middle of nowhere!)

Janet

Night Club = brothel

Not that I've ever been in one I hasten to add. The TRNC is not really an 18 year olds idea of good night life. Other extreme is the South of course.

Have a very good read of these forums before deciding on buying property in the North.

Hi Janet

I have a house in Karsiyaka.

I would find it difficult to rec it to an 18 year old, whilst there is no shortage of facilities ie restaurants , bars , shops etc within a reasonable distance

(by car) you should not expect to find this area or indeed any area within the TRNC that is developed to the extent that one finds in the major tourist areas ie Spain/Greece/Southern Cyprus, to many people this at the moment is one of the attractions of the TRNC this situation however im sure will change in the fullness of time.

Have fun and enjoy your visit , remember to keep reading the board you will find many members who have a wealth of info who will be only to willing to help you.

PS Note Karens comment re night clubs putting it more simple terms they are brothels

Ozankoy hasl bars and restaurants all within walking distance of the village. Some of the bars that surround the harbour in Girne are lively and cater more for the younger age group. There are some discos and escape beach is also a haunt for the younger age group. I remember UKTurk answering this question on another thread so hopefully he will give you more information than I can.

Good Luck

I have a house in Karsiyaka and enjoy the peace and quiet when I am over there. I have a 24 year old son and a 20 year old daughter and if they want entertaining they just go looking for it in Kyrenia.

As far as restaurants go we are not too far from a host of excellent ones' and, to be honest, you need a car in TRNC at the best of times so you are no time away from anywhere really.

From Kazzie's reply you'd think that there were "Night Clubs" near Esentepe but there are none... nor are there likely to be any.

Esentepe is a sleepy village with a (growing) range of restaurants a number of minimarkets a petrol station etc.

For entertainment I would suggest easy travelling distance to Girne is the best option.

Karsiyaka is a bit far out but there are clubs etc. that are OK in the area too.

Karsiyaka is a great place to live as long as you have a car. With Children and teenagers you are going to need to be a taxi driver to get them to all facilities in Lapta and onwards to Girne.

I believe there are buses to transport children to school.

Alsancak is a far better base with loads of supermarkets, restaurants (some of the best in the region), a regular bus service into Kyrenia and we still have views of the mountains with good walking directly into the hills. Who could ask for anything more?

There is alot to do in Karsiyaka area. I live in the area and there is no shortage of bars along the stretch of main road connecting us to Lapta, Alsancak, Girne and all other places.

With regards to the nightclub scene, there isnt much in the way of comparison to them in the UK. Like a few people have said, they are basically brothels here. One near me is called Monamour, and you can tell by the signpost that it isnt a "normal" nightclub.

If she wants fun, she needs to head down to the beach where there is alot of good nightlife for youngons like myself.

Hope it helps.

Michael
