We were told by our solicitor only the other day that the cut off date was 30th June - BUT - they were waiting for word to see if it would be further extended - watch this space.

In response to message 4, I too have heard from my lawyer that the tax reduction period might be extended further beyond 30th June. Does anyone have any definite information or konw where such information can be obtained?

On going to the website from message to, what is the difference on the buyers property tax of 6% or 3%. Who has to pay the 3 and who pays the 6? Sorry if I sould a bit thick. Is the KDV still 5%. I know some people grumble about this board, but I think it's brilliant for helping people plough their way through some of

the things we need to know.

The HMPG website confirms that the temporary reduction in property tax from 3% to 0.75% ends on 30/6/09. Does anyone have any firm evidence whether this is likely to be extended again?

Be much better if the TRNC Government announced the end of PTP. Just think of the tax revenue that would bring in to a bankrupt economy.

Everyone has to pay 6% but everyone also has the one off option of paying 3%. Depends whether you are going to buy and then sell on for something more expensive. In that case it would pay to defer taking the 3% option on the initial purchase and keep it for the more expensive one. Yes, KDV is still 5%, you pay it to your builder and they should issue you an official receipt with a stamp on it (Fatura).

There is nothing really legal about when you pay property tax, but most builders say its when you get the keys

to your property and everythings up and running, electric, water etc.

But opinion is divided on the subject.

KDV is Turkish for VAT.

The property tax must be paid up before transfer of title. Although property tax if the land owner's responsibility, if you have taken posession of the property then it would be fair to say you should pay the property tax from that date. For KDV info see: http://www.hbpg-trnc.net/documents/KDV_0708.html
