The only thing for 'evil' to succeed is for good people to do nothing!

If today's D-Day Commemoration tells us anything it is that even 65 years later - the thing that brought people together from all over the world was the notion that what the Nazis stood for was inherently immoral and evil. That people from all faiths and no faiths fought to be rid of such tyranny is an exemplar for future generations that there is more that unites us as Humankind than divides us!

To hate someone because they are of a different colour or a different culture or a different religion is the first step on a very, very slippery slope!

I hope and pray that we do not forget the reason why so many gave their lives for the very freedoms we enjoy today - and that if there is an inkling of similar hatred being nutured then we take their example and stand up for what is moral and right.

Moover I watched it and I have to admit to shedding tears. The words spoken and the veterans there how can we ever forget. To see those graves marked so beautifully was moving enough. My father fought there he died at 36 and down to injuries etc sustained there. I wil never forget and to see Obahma speak without a script and remember names when everybody else had a script ready for them. Those vertarans honoured what a great honour for them after all this time. So few left but I hop that the generations they leave will always respect them. When they played TAPS then i cried. LEST ANY OF US EVER FORGET WHAT THEY DID FOR OUR FREEDOM xx

Perhaps all those EU knockers should realise that the EU has helped to preserve peace within Europe , so perhaps they should remember that.

Lilli - Your father was a great man! I don't know him or any of the many thousands of others who made the ultimate sacrifice, but I know that I owe them a debt of gratitude which can never be repaid! My God bless each and everyone of them and may their families know that we shall never forget them

Glad you reminded us moover, I watched some of it, was at the 60th, lost friends in other conflicts, too young for that one but always shed a tear, very moving.

Watching this touches my heart that so many brave people gave their lives to enable us to be free.

If it wasn't for them, none of us would be here today and enjoy the freedom we have. We should be eternally grateful to all of them for that.

Not enough is taught to our youth today about the ultimate sacrifices made.

This is evident in the lack of respect shown to the older generation by "some" of the youth today. I find this despicable.

The older generation can teach us so much, if only we are willing to listen.

In 1999 we went to France with the specific task of going to the landing beaches and 1st and 2nd world war cemetery's. To read the inscriptions on the graves of some who died would have broke the hardest heart. The youngest we saw was at Calais he was 11 years old and perished on a ship with his father in WW1. I would like to add that the French keep these graveyards in immaculate condition.

The following year saw us in Canbbera Australia and we went to the big war memorial there again to see the wall with so many names was hearbreaking. From there we went to Pearl Harbour in Hawaii, again the wall with so may names. I know some will think it morbid, and I have photographs from all the places that we visited. I will certainly never forget the young men and women who died so young with all their lifes still in front of them.
