heard a rumour the other day about the use of 95 or 97 octane in cars. Was told catagorically that I should use 97 in my car as the 95 was rubbish and refined in TRNC (the 97 being refined in turkey and therefore of better quality). I did not think there was any refining capacity in TRNC! Would anybody like to throw some light on this?

Rumours is rumours!! Always go for regular 95 unless you've got a McLaren or Ferrari! rob

All fuels are imported from Turkey. Unless your vehicle specifically needs to have 97 octane then the 95 is fine. By the way, running a 95 octane on 97 octane fuel will not har your vehicle, it will just dent your pocket as it's usually more expensive. For those who do have cars that are specified to run on 97 octane then you really should do it, otherwise in the long term your vehicle will have problems. Running 97 octane vehicles for short periods on 95 octane is ok if no 97 octane available.

We always put Redex in with every full tank because the petrol is poor quality.

It is not refined as much as it is in UK resulting in clocked up jets.

time for - if i composed a list of 1,000,000,000 things that i needed to sort out, your question would be towards the bottom of my list, slightly above sorting out Mrs M's knicker draw.... Stick with 95 octane....
