Just thought I would give my experience on my 1st visit to Cyprus for 40years! My father left some land to me when he passed away a few years ago. I had been waiting for all of the transfer documentation to be put into my name, which it has and a visit to see what I have seemed appropriate. I flew out for a couple of days in May, in the back of my mind was the memory of my one and only visit to the beautiful island in 1969, a month I will never forget, memories of all of the children from the village getting onto a trailer and using a tractor to go to a beach for their 1st visit to the sea. Great times.

Time moves on and I arrived in Larnaca airport (Much cheaper than Ercan) to be met by my cousin. Although born in London, I do have my fathers Turkish looks and the one thing that I felt was the hostility from the Greek Cypriots. Comments were made, which I doubt were complimentary and it wasnt until we got to the Turkish side that things improved noticeably.

So what about your land, did it live up to your expectations? Did you enjoy your visit? Will you be coming back? Would you like to settle here one day?

So many questions unanswered. Please don't keep us hanging on, tell us all about your visit and how much things have changed in the last 40 years.

Regards.

Ken,

support the north and use Ercan.

I was over last 2 weeks in May and it cost me less with Turkish via Istanbul, than a neighbour using Squeezyjet when you added the cost of bags and food and drink plus a taxi from Larnaca, which you luckily didnt need.

Hi joandjelly

where do you start. I remember my fathers land having melons, figs cucumber and lemons on it. Unfortunately, the young people of the village have no interest in maintaining the land and together with the water problem the whole 9 donums has been put to wheat. A shame really but the villagers priority must come 1st. The beach where we took the children too has had the Kaya Artemis Resort Hotel built on it. I had the opportunity to have a look around this place and its amazing, if I could afford it that would be my 1st place to stay, however, the Salamis hotel I stayed in was great and very comfortable apart from the aircon not working! Not to bad in May, a major problem mid summer. And it rained! 300 days of sunshine and I pick the 1 day it rained. 6.30 in the morning for about 15 minutes I think is acceptable.

Hi stressedboy it is a shame about the wheat but then again you could come back and get the fruit going again! I'm glad you enjoyed yourself though and really considering it has been 40 years you're lucky it is not a complete concrete jungle (yet). At least you will always have your little piece of heaven here waiting for you.
