| Cyanuric acid is part of a Catch-22 situation with pools in TRNC. If your pool doesn't leak and you are not topping it up regularly, the CYA level will keep climbing as long as you use stabilized chlorine. The good news is your Total Alkalinity will fall making your pH easier to control and your chlorine more effective. However, CYA levels will keep rising until they make the chlorine become less effective. If your pool does leak and you keep introducing "new" water your CYA level won't climb as quickly but your Total Alkalinity will remain high, causing pH "bounce" and making your chlorine less effective. Catch-22: Either way your chlorine becomes less effective. Quarmby has a good idea but non-stabilized chlorine is difficult to source in TRNC, unless he knows of a place. A better idea might be to go for a low CYA method of pool maintenance like an Aligator silver/copper oxide system where chlorine, and thus CYA levels are very low to non-existent. |

| If you convert to an Aligator system, you will NOT need to drain your pool. The very low amount of chlorine used will mean that with backwashing and splashout CYA levels will fall quite quickly. Draining your pool and refilling it will cost you about 300 pounds depending on the size of the pool. An Aligator will cost you 850 pounds, fitted. |
