Hi Bongo,i have recently exported my 1963 Vespa GL from the UK to the TRNC and am looking forward to riding my pride and joy around the area from the 3rd of July. Its been totally re-conditioned with a P200 engine along with some nice extras.I have also seen a Lambretta GP that i noticed was on a pile of metal in a yard near to the Lacem resturant.I have already made a few enquiries about who actually ownes it as i was thinking about buying it for a project while i'm on the island.Cheers

Hi Bongo,I have recently imported my 1963 Vespa GL from the UK to the TRNC its has been totally re-furbished with a P200 engine along with some nice period extras.I am really looking forward to riding my pride and joy around the area from the 3rd of July.On my last visit i noticed a Lambretta GP that was looking a little sorry for itself on a pile of metal in a yard close to the Lecem in Alsancak.I have made a number of enquires through Jimmy, the owner of Lecem and he was going to have a word with his father.Cheers

Hi Kav,

Sorry for posting my thread twice as being a new member i thought my first one didn't go through..oh well.

The exercise was quite lengthy with plenty of running around for a week or two.I'll explain.

1.You need to contact and then join the Classic Car Club of North Cyprus, they will confirm that the vehicle that you want to import is 'a classic'-over 25 years old. They do give excellent advise, but do charge you.

2.You need to obtain a 'Licence to import' through the Ministry of Commerce in Nicosia,i did this after the scooter had arrived in Famagusta. No charge and only took 1 hr.

3.I then spent a day at the port with the handling agents, who were very helpful. The scoot took 3 weeks to arrive using a company in Northampton who then used Dolphin for shipping. It cost me £400 for shipping and then 1200 Lira for the duty and taxes.

4.I then had to buy insurance which cost 200 lira,MOT,re-reg and finally buy new TRNC plates.

All in all it cost me around £1200 door to door.Cheers

Hi Biteback

Yeah,i agree.I don't understand why they wouldn't be interested in selling it as its just sitting there rusting away.A real shame but i'll have another word with Jimmy in July and see if his old man,who is the local Mukar can put some pressure on the owner to sell.Always wanted a lammy.

Same with the old cars here. Morris (split screen) Minors, Sunbeams, Austins, all sorts sitting in the weeds. Cyps reckon they are worth a bomb in UK when restored, so they want a slice.
