my auntie a branch manager of interbank in istanbul when the bank closed down. she came to work one morning and everything had gone, everything in every branch. even she did not know and could not access her own a/c. everything had happened in one night. all the crying, shouting and demonstrating did not work. alot of people lost alot of money. i a gb tc and nc citizen, i moved here 6 months ago an opened an a/c in a bank. when i requested my auntie to transfer my money over she said that the details of the bank i had given her did not exist and that this particular bank had closed its branches over 10years ago. after investigating i found that the name had been spelt just a little diffrentand other banks the same. if the original name was joint it was now seperate eg *****bank, now is spelt ***** bank. with a gap. very hard to notice. i did not. my auntie advised that only tc ziraat bank and halk bank are the 2 tc government owned banks in nc. ziraat is opposite (cont)

Yunus, it is probably the same as the banks in the middle east. For the most part they are franchises owned by a very rich local which is great if you have a bad credit rating because they don't have links to the real banks but not so good if you want to transfer your account from one to the other

Why do people say HSBC out here is not genuine?? I have checked with HSBC in the U.K. and YES it is HSBC out here. I get free banking, free transfers, free annual travel insurance just because I have a Premier account here. End of story.

Vunos there is a Tesko near Magusa but it isn't anything to do with the Tesco's we all know, colours are the same red/blue/white and when you first see it, you do think it's the real thing.
