Heard today that the South are starting their water cuts from tomorrow - up to 6 hours per day. Wonder how long it'll be before the North follow suit.

There have been water cuts for quite a while in the TRNC, in Alsancak the water only comes on every 2 or 3 days.

So far this winter we've been lucky ours only gets turned off for a short period of time. Last year in fairness our Beladesyi turned our water on every night long enough to refill the personal tanks. They used to vary the time so people wouldn't use it to water the garden/fill the pool and do all the things you aren't supposed to waste it on. Worked very well.

Not that friendly to the environment I understand.

Is the planned piped water from the Turkish mainland still on the cards or are there some difficulties that will not make it practical engineering/costs? This is something they could invest EU money into if so. If there is plenty available/ to go around from this source - then they could use it as a bargaining tool in talks with the south.

Hi Briggus

They've been talking about that for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately all they seem to do is talk.

Hi all,

The turkey NC water pipeline has literally been in the pipeline for years- so who knows??

Although I agree if north and turkey do build this pipeline it will put them in a very strong barganing position with the south side as they too are desperate for water??

So they should consider doing it??

There has been next to no rain at all during the whole of winter. Be prepared for water cuts, massive price hikes in tankered water.
