Hi guys,

I'm planning to install satellite in Catalkoy where I'm planning to move soon but I want to have Russian and English channels. The Sky can provide me only the English one. What shall I do? What type of satellite shall I get and does anyone has got Russian TV? or who do I need to talk to find out that?

Many thanks in advance

Hi, we have Russian TV we pick it up on the Hotbird Satellite also the Sirius satellite provides lots of Russian Language channels form many of the former Soviet Union countries and the Ukraine.

The System being used is a 1 metre motorised Dish and a Next reciever, My wife (Russian ) is over the moon with the amount of choice she has. With the same system we also get the Nilesat channels, quite a few english speaking channels with some good movie channels i.e. MBC2, MBC Max etc...

Satman Cyprus is a member of this board he can provide the equipment and set it up. The best part is it is a one off fee with no monthly or yearly payments.

Dear Ellik / TheSaints

re msg 1 / 1

There is a new service HDplatforma.ru starting on Hotbird at 9 Degrees East .. you should be able to pick it up.. on a 1m dish - but you'd need a special receiver to view the channels - it offers HD channels in Russian - currently the only way to get one is from Russia and there is a sub..

I'm trying to get hold of a a receiver for us - if you know of a way ...

Satman Cyprus may also be aware of channels at 75/80 East - but you need a 1.5m dish to get these channels - and some are pay tv - "Orion Express" - but the package is not expensive

Finally you need a 2.1m dish to get NTV plus - the "SKY" of Russian TV - again pay tv ..

Good Luck - Udachi

free-to-view in both cyprus and uk using a pair of cheap 90 cm dishes:

perviye kanal 1 rossiya, plus bbc world on hotbird

several ukrainian channels including enter film, on sirius

full details: lyngsat.com

box: comag 12v/maplins, also phoenix 230v/satellite superstore, nextstar locally

tek-tan can install local dishes and do setup...

and you will then be able to switch between the two satellites

ps make sure your partener wants the ukrainian channels, not all russian people do

and although you can install three (!) dishes for nilesat/hotbird/sirius

or even a motor job,

it may well be that for the two of you hotbird/nilesat is the best combination:

the russian programmes on channel 1 are high-quality and the channel "similar" to bbc 1,

while nilesat also carries bbc world plus some english language shows and films

trust things are clearer for you now

perviye kanal rossiya on hotbird is a premium quality programme

with original soaps, features and films, it is not scrambled

it is the german/ukrainian edition as far as some of the advertising is concerned

I think you can also find channel one on digiturk but you pay a sub

and for mostly turkish programmes

as I said above a second dustbin lid sized dish will pull in a selection

of ukrainian freesat shows from sirius but not all russians want them

there are also several shops selling russian language dvds very cheap

re 5/10

Don't forget to issue our original poster with a "public health" warning re international version of PC ( 1st channel ) .. the repetitive adverts for cheap telephone calls from Germany - the channel is aimed at Russian speakers in Germany - can cause one's partner to WANT to watch BBC / DVDs ;)
