I am a bit bewildered to say the least , as most of you know , i am not computer literate and Facebook is a complete mystery to me , i had a few requests from close friends so i accepted them , but this morning i had half of cyprus 44 looking at me { i'm exaggerating a bit more like 15 all told } how on earth did this happen ? just curious , not a problem

Please enlighten me , Simbas

Hi,

You should adjust your privacy account settings so you can firstly accept or decline friend requests, anyone on facebook can look up your full name, find you then request to be your friend! I have also added extra privacy settings ie people who look me up can only send me an email first and only my friends can see my contact information and photos etc

You can do this by clicking on 'settings' then privacy settings' at the top of the screen

Hope this helps!

I have over 100 requess for joining this or that cause or activity and I simply ignore them. I have no idea who looks at my profile and I could not really care less, everyone is welcome to look at my profile or pictures or send me messages. So what? It is so easy to delete them, no problem.

I like it as an easy and interactive way of keeping in touch with family & friends from all over the world!

I update my photos & they can see how I am getting on & I can see photos of my nieces growing up etc without their parents having to send me photos in the post...which would probably get lost getting here anyway! & it's free!

I have also just recently joined 'Skype' I too before was ignoring all these requests, but Skype is like an online telephone call and its free! If you have a web cam you can see eachother too!

Simbas just because faces pop up it doesn't necessarily mean they can actually look at your profile. It is just that facebook suggests people you may know and may want to become "friends" with especially if you have the same location (such as Cyprus for example).

simbas, a rule of thumb is, if you don't know them, nor want to, then hit ignore...all the applications that are sent to you, unless you fancy having a go, hit ignore....i happen to love Facebook, i have traced and been traced by some amazing people that i have met along the road, so don't give up on it, once you get used to it, it can be a really fabulous tool to keeping and finding friends all over the world. hope this helps your faith in FaceBook...

Facebook is fantastic, I lost contact with my half sisters after my father died and now thanks to the youngest finding me in Facebook I am not only back in contact with both of them but I am also an uncle.

I posted some pictures of the villa I am renting in Catalkoy and now everybody wants to visit us.

I love facebook, too. I use it to keep up with ex-students amongst others. I have more tha 1000 'friends' - must be nearly everybody I have met over the last 59 years! People in England can check out Cyprus and people in Cyprus can find out about our life in Englans. An added advantage (being an insomniac) is that I can 'chat' to people in Australia in the middle of the night.

Brilliant!

msg 25,

Tools>Options>Audio Settings - If the box marked 'Let Skype adjust my audio settings' is NOT ticked, then tick it - if it IS ticked, untick it and turn Microphone and Speaker volume up full (you can always turn it down a bit later) - click 'SAVE'.

Make sure that the volume on yout PC is turned up - look at the 'advanced' or 'extended' volume control settings on the pc, and make sure that everything is turned up and not 'muted'.

Sometimes 're-booting' works wonders (for this AND everything else...).

If that doesn't work, ask someone who actually knows what they're talking about!

Best of luck,

Keith.
