We had a superb Italian meal last night at Yummies on the main road near Astro supermarket Kyrenia.

Food fresh and hot and fantastically presented. Service excellent and price unbelievably cheap 2 courses for two, 3 glasses wine and 2 beers 54tl

Yummies is certainly a good name I can highly recommend!!!

mmm Lilli won't like this! I have to say that every time I have passed 'Yummies' I always thought it looked like a fast food chain & not real authentic Italian food...

Although I have not been as I do not eat out for Italian food often as my parents are Italian and I can make a lot of it myself at home (having been taught by my mother), having looked at 'Guido's' menu online, it does seem to have authentic dishes from different regions of Italy and being Italian himself I would think he knows what he is talking & cooking about (!), but as I say have not eaten there before although I do fancy popping in one day for some panna cotta!

I had an amazing pizza at 'Mani Peni' pizzeria the other night with my fiance as you really have to go out for that to somewhere with a wood fire oven, the pizzas were delicious, fresh, thin & crispy although am not sure if it is Italian run & when I asked for a glass of 'Prosecco' I got a blank look! It's around the corner from Pia Bella hotel.

nataless never judge a book by its cover and i think competion is good it keeps places on there toes which benefits everyone i am sure people will give guidos a go the amount of advertising on here. i for one think when someone advertisers that much they cant be doing much but like i say i will give both a go and judge myself for food atmosphere staff prices and service

Nataless

Don't think it will worry Lilli one bit you plugging another restuarant on here. For many of us that live here wreally not worth travelling from Lapta into Girne as so many good restuarants here including Guidos.

sure as I said it was just a joke!

& although I shouldn't judge a book by its' cover, as we don't go out to eat often I like to go somewhere in lovely surroundings & 'Yumies' is on a busy high street and doesn't appeal as I said looks like fast food, especially being Italian as I said I make a lot of it at home myself, however, if the food was great, wasn't Italian and did take away I might have got that & taken it home..!

In my opinion the pizzas at Pizza King Alsancak are better than those at Yummies and Yummies only sell small bottles of beer at 5TL (at least they did 4 weeks ago)

Don't Leave your car in Astro's Car Park after closing time, as they put a barrier across, which I found out last Saturday when I went over the road to the new Bar/Cafe and when I came back I couldn't get my car out and there was a big notice on the windscreen, but a kind security guard came out and took the barrier down and we were able to drive off.

So Beware move your car before closing time.

luca you are so right, for us it's a way of life we love cook and eat good food and we have so many dishes to choose from, not only pizza or pasta!!. it's the chef @ yummie italian? i dont think so. to make a good pizza you need flour 00 and it's not available in trnc. that is way i dont make pizza.

I am half Italian & have to say that the pizzas in 'Mani Peni' pizzeria are excellent! They are based on the new harbour roundabout, round the corner from Pia Bella hotel.

I would actually agree that pizza and many varieties of cooking pasta (different sauces, lasagne, pasta in brodo etc) are the base of Italian cooking, of course there are many other Italian dishes & desserts too...

I would like to point out that I am not saying Yummies doesn't serve good food. I am merely questioning the term "Authentic Italian food" As Guido pointed out it is more or less impossible to buy the original ingredients here to make anything closely resembling authetic pizza. People now are conditioned to think that what the supermarket chains and fast food outlets sell is authentic Italian and that is generally not the case. No offence was meant towards Yummies and it's owners who seem to have an increasing loyal and satisfied clientele. Now after what you have said about Moulos Racoonchic I am tempted to make the pilgimage to Kucukerenkoy!

I have a wonderful Italian cookery book (bought for me by American friend at the army base in Istanbul)

as I wanted a recipe for Tira mi Su. Some of the recipes in it I have used many times and they are most

delicious. i.e. chicken done in white wine, lemon & garlice, served with capers & strawberry. Easy to make

and Wild Mushroom tart (lot of calories but you can adjust) a real winner. Don't know how authentic they

are but they do give the regions. Soups are also great and even gives recipes for making pasta!

Interesting debate on Italian food.

Luca B and Guido are right. The reason people abroad think Italian food is mainly based on pizza and pasta is because that's relatively easier to export as a menu.

If you do go to Italy though, and pop in the legendary restaurants where Abramovich and George Clooney are at the moment, then you see to what dimension you can be taken. The way they conceive cooking is just the same way Michelangelo painted the S. Chapel. Each dish is a garden of colours, shapes and taste that once tried will stay in your mouth for eva. I highly recommend the Amalfi coast restaurants in Ravello, Positano, some other in Naples. For the best pizza on planet, I will never forget the "University of Pizza"" around those towns. Superior class ...

During my stay in Northern Italy I remember watching a daily morning tv programme where chefs were invited to compete live against other colleagues from all around the country. What came out was just beyond description ..
