where i can get some stones made into jewelry inexpensively? the stones are not valuable but very pretty. i have 2 small heart shaped ones that i'd like as drop earings and an oval one for a pendant and a small oblong for a ring. nothing fancy and it can be silver or gold but i don't want to pay a fortune. i've had some high quotes already and it just wouldn't be worth it.

thanks

Jewelers just off the harbour seems ok but not sure what he would charge. Walk down the steps from the lane opposite the Belediye in girne near the coffee shops and the shop is at the bottom just before the harbour on the left near the Mosque.

I would be careful who you ask as I was recommended to a certain jewellers in town about four years ago when I had a diamond and sapphirre eternity ring made for her indoors. It looked good and she seemed pleased with it but within two hours of putting it on she noticed that two of the stones were missing and I decided to take it back to the manufacturer the next day but he refused to accept it was his workmanship at fault and said that my wife must have mistreated it and wouldnt replace the missing stones, after an arguement he relented and repaired it but it happened on a further three occassions, scared that she would lose all the stones she took it off and now it sits in the safe never to be worn again.

Hi, Come and see Patrick at the Lamboussa market. He is in the garden section and has earrings and large iron sculptures for sale. He makes rings to order. He is near the ice-cream man, or else ask anyone in the garden section where Patrick (Pat) is.

Walk down the hill on the main street and turn right at the road junction past the round tower - the other way goes into tin pan alley - carry on down towards the sea front and turn left at the last road on your left.

40 mtrs down on the left hand side (before the road turns hard right) is a little silver jewelers call Sheko.

It is his only shop in town but his workshops are in Nicosia where he produces (well his staff do) Cypriot style jewelery. A happy man with excellent english who will make anything to your order at a very good price. Go see what he has on offer and ask - asking is free.

Thanks everyone, i'll certainly try to get to see Patrick that sounds promising, does he only make rings or all sorts? i have been to sheko many times in the past and bought things that have later needed repair after repair and in the end i got fed up going back. although a lovely man and very helpful i just found the quality of the repairs poor so it put me off going to him to ask.

Senak who has a shop just by the mosque in the old harbour is fantastic, I had a diamond ring made to order from him, when I went home I had it valued and it was almost worth 3 times what I had paid for it, also friends had their wedding bands made that were beautiful. He copied those from a magazine picture, and they looked excactly like the picture.

Have bought many pieces off him over the years and have always been very happy.

Denise,

Maybe Sheko has shaken up his staff or changed them - we have had a repair made to a bit of jewelry from the UK that nobody in the UK would even touch, they all told us that hollow silver bracelets (square kind) were not repairable and could only be sold for silver value against a new one! Sheko said he would get it repaired and true to his word, although some four weeks late, it has come back almost perfect. He even managed to repair a broach of my wifes that we honestly thought was well beyond it - a silver leaf that had suffered 6 months under a pile of gravel and then a good thumping with a spade before we found it again.
