There is no such thing as a 100% guaranteed product, I suggest you very carefully read the Key Facts literature. You are obviously talking about what is known as a Structured Product, these are offered by many companies but the so called guarantee is provided by what is known as the counterparty, if the counterparty goes bust as in the case of Lehman Brothers you will lose your money.

As an IFA regulated by the FSA in the UK, my advice is that if it sounds to goog to be true, it usually is. I would suugest you keep your investment offshore for maximum growth potential and tax breaks. The old rule of buyer beware always exists and the financial services sector off shore from the Uk is rife with with con men. If you are UK rewsident you are still subject to UK tax laws and any gains off shore should be declared on your annual returns. Investing in TRNC does hold a risk, even the HSBC you see advertised in TRNC is not part of the UK group and is not subject to UK compensation rules if they go beely up. Use a regulated IFA in the UK, structured products can be good and many offer protected capital but read the small print as some are only protected provided they do not breach certain barriers. I doubt very much if you can get a guaranteed 14% from any reliable investment that does not have a high risk or is subject to high inflation such as what they have in TRNC, 20%

inflation destroys the investment on conversion. I have invested a few thousand pound in Cyprus on the basis that the interest received pays my bills. For serious investment that will always be available I use alternative off shore facilities that offer controlled regulation and financial protection of my investment.

If you are being advised on investment, check the commission the agent is receiving, this can be as much as 7% and remember this comes out of your capital usually upfront so your investment has to work very hard in the first year just to stand still. The best IFA's offer investment advice based on an hourly fee rate, this way you know you are being advised without the seller trying to maximise his commission.

UK ISA investment carries with it the tax breaks, so you can use up your annual allowance on this as a useful investment vehicle, with kind regardfs.
