I allow myself some observations and remarks.

This board has become a library after a bomb attack. The site has no dedicated search engine and I find it very hard to find what I want using Google. (Maybe it's my fault - any tip to perfect my search capabilities is welcome).

Postings, serious and silly, all in just one forum and many about subjects posted many times before, follow each other up with breathtaking speed. The forum must be split in sub-forums or the site will die because of its own success.

Forum Admins have the power to close down any thread they deem fit. On the other hand they claim for themselves (at least one did that) the right to offend and then say sorry. This is wrong. Almost all serious boards in this world have Admins who remain and work in the background. And that is how it should be.

How disappointing it is to find out that someone who's always friendly when you meet him in the real world - is a vicious enemy on this board. [ more ]

If people were not allowed to lie and in fact remain anonymous in their profile when joining this board - there would be a lot less anonymous board-heroes. To whom are you replying in a thread? Most of the times one has no idea.

Is it right to join this board with several nicknames? Is it right that one can join this board again after one has received one, two or even three 10-year bans?

I don' expect much supporting feedback. Maybe this thread will not even live long enough on this board to be read by more people than a Forum Admin.

Anyway. Enough. I've drawn my conclusions. You all have a nice day.*

* I apologise for the errors in the English language.

Addition.

Many times I've read here "I'm proud to be British." Or English, Scottish, Welsh etc. How come so many proud Brits exclude writing decent English from their pride? Why don't they connect a spellchecker to their browser? Why don't they use capital characters (and punctuation) when needed? Or is it pedantic if one tries his/her best when writing in the English language..?

Just a thought. (If I may borrow Wynyardman's favourite end of a posting).

P.S. My American browser says it's "favorite" but my spellchecker says it's favourite in UK English. I almost had to apologize, errrm, apologise again.

Good morning Dutchcrusader. Most of the posts on here are just quick and easy questions regarding issues of the day.

One or two threads are of interest, expecially ones that debate. But even these can be rather 'unkind' to the eye. Meaning, that some of the forum members tend to make their answers very 'disjointed', so now I tend to skip over these members writings.

Most of us want something to read that is easy to read quickly , and to be able to answer in English. Just find that all this >>>>> >>>>and///////// <<<<<,and >>>>> between sentences is very of putting .

>>>>>~~...>>>>>

if you get my drift. But then I dont proclaim to be a written expert in these fields.

Why do you apologise for your errors in the English language by yourself? this is no problem as many of us that speak the language/write make mistakes all the time! Its not a crime you know.

Hans

Did you mean 'apologise' again, or 'apologies' again?

If 'apologise' again, you should really have said 'I apologise again', (singular). Or, if 'apologies', it should be 'My apologies again', (plural).

I apologise for my pedantics regarding apologies.

Why do you always insist on slagging off peoples spelling and punctuation? What's it to you? People make mistakes sometimes.

As with all people who write in the English language, regardless of Grammar, spelling and punctuation it is actually one of the few languages where these rules do not have to be followed to the letter. If our board was translated into many other languages the population would not be ablr to understand you. It also happens with the spoken word too. Try going to France, Germany, Turkey and dare I say it, Holland and getting the grammar wrong and they don't understand you.

Those who pick up on poor grammar, spelling and punctuation really should get a life. I have never found your writings difficult, unlike some others and usually followed the correct structure of answers.

Just two point DC, a plural word is followed by "are" not "is", even if the sentence is about a single entitiy, secondly "Anyway" and "Enough" do not constitute sentences but if they were linked by a comma, rather than a full stop, it would be acceptable.

Remember that even in the USA, English is a second language!

Rob

p.s. Trudy,... your post started with 'uh',...

It should have been 'Uh'.

................but isn't it shaming that a Dutchman writes better English than most native speakers on the forum ?

Perhaps this is why most of the replies are so rude and defensive.
