I noticed many homes have ornamental owls on the roof and this works in scaring away birds. I have just ordered one on the internet and the price was £9.95 plus post. I intend to put this up when next out at my propertyu. I do not need it so much for bird mess but rather to keep them away as my wife is terrified of them and the flauttering wings. Alternative is poision bait placed in a position where other pets cannot get the pellets. Kind regards.

Bought an owl with big eyes from a proper sports shop in GB, to try and keep the pidgeons and starlings from sh--ing all over the baby calves and their food, well, we put it up on a beam that when you enter the shed it would be the first thing these bl--dy birds would see. Very smug was I, went to see how the calves were and how clean every thing would be and lo and behold who should be perching on the owls head but the wretched pidgeons! A gun is the only thing that scares/cures these pests, lol

Plastic owls or snakes can work but you have to move them around because the birds get used to seeing them in the same place and eventually ignore them!

Blackpool fan, please bring me a snake or owl for D3, the terrace was caked in crap and was a vile job to remove. Hopefully the birds here are thick as....

I will reimburse you of course.

Unfortunately, poor old Nelson in trafalgar square is not immune - I know our borough once tried live hawks to frighten them off but I think they frightened the shoppers away as well! Pigeons are a real nuisance and the damage to paintwork on cars, by the birdlime - if you dont wash it off straight away it eats into it - I had to have some of the paintwork resprayed.

Whilst commiserating with the postings, I have no real solution other than to try and stop so called well meaning people from putting out bread and such like - that just encourages them and adds to the overall problem. Perhaps a cull is needed?

We bought some spikes to put on the roof from Superhome in the south and they did the trick.

I would guess that if you wanted to buy some 'poison' the small shop (don't know its name) which is in the opposite side of the main road in Girne to the Law courts. As you go down one of these roads there is a key shop and almost next to it there is a small shop that is licensed to sell chemicals. The chap that runs it does speak a little english and may well be able to help you.

PS

Forgot to add, we also put wire netting up in the gutters and under the solar panels and water tanks to stop the pigeons being able to make nests.

It was all a pain but it worked for us!!

Msg 17, You need to catch them first!!

The blighters mess everywhere but fly away when you are around, only to return when you are asleep to make more mess. Tried CD's and wire but to no avail. I think we need to get an ornamental owl....

We don't have a problem with bird poo but we're sick of sweeping up miscellaneous bird winds and legs when they drop the bits they can't feed their babies!!!!! That's what happens when you refuse to block the holes until the eggs have hatched and birds flown - hopefully!

When I was a kid in East London after the war, we used to go to Brick Lane market on Sunday. All the indians would buy up all the old homing pidgeons from the pidgeon racers and cook them. Maybe we should think of commercial applications to the pidgeon problem and help the economy at the same time.

Anyone for pidgeon pie ??????? - Delicious did I hear you say ???????
