Two men have been apprehended re the spate of burglaries in Lapta and Karsiyaka. They were using different rent a cars at first, then purchased one (no doubt out of their ill gotten gains). Leaving a small road in Lapta they did not stop for a police vehicle, police had the registration and at the same time word came in of a burglary on the road they had just left. They are now in custody one of them admitted 24 burglaries this was reported in today's Kibris. Any other news will let you know.

Heard from a friend that a report was in Turkish Cypriot papers that a group of 5 men had been caught compete with a picture of all the money and jewellery that had been recovered. I don't know if it is the same bunch but evidently they were responsible for 30 burglaries between Lapta and Tatlisu! I hope they throw away the key for all the worry they've put everyone through and hope it brings some comfort to those that were burgled

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what nationality these men were? There were 4 break ins on our site last week and of course owners have been speculating as to who would have done this.

I read that 2 had been arrested and that another 2 were being held in connection with same. The pictures of some of the stolen stuff is on page 2 of todays (15th) Kibris. Says one of them comes from Guzelyurt and I have forgotten the name of the other village, but it is over that way.

I hope anyone who had anything stolen gets it returned. Sometimes its things of sentimental value that are worth the most!

Does anyone have a copy of the picture that was in KIbris (message 6)? When we were out in May our villa in Karmi was burgled and my wife lost all of her jewellery. It would be great if we could get some of it back. We reported the break in to the police at the time but did not hold out much hope of getting anything back.

Here is a copy of the article from Star Kibris.

The names of the burglars are ....Muharrem Barış, Erdal Dağlı, Yavuz Yurt, ve Osman Kalkan

The Lapta police were involved in a plain clothes operation. 30 house were burgled and £30,000 worth of property were recovered in jewellery, MP3, watches and other small items. Cheque book and credit cards. The burglars targeted the British, and watched the house for the occupants movements. They jemmyed the doors/windows and took safes which they opened and left in the Bogaz area (and another area) in Girne. The Police said it was a sophisticated operation. Yavuz Yurt and Osman Kalkan were fencing the goods in Casinos and market places. That's about the best I can do. I can't post a link for the picture, but if you go to http://www.starkibris.net/ and click on the fifth tumbnail from the left you will see the goods retrieved.

It is believed the burglars are from Turkey.

Yes it worked!

if you save the photo to your PC,

then open it,

you will be able to zoom in for a closer look.

There's quite a lot there,

including some forced opened safes.

From the picture you would think, unless a safe is set into the wall or floor, there's not much point in having one!

Sounds like a good result - but surely they have to be put through court before anything is definite?

I also hope that they have their say in court and were not pressured to confess their crimes.

Ahem.............
