Last week it was spiders now its snakes!

Never going to have any visitors, they will all be to affraid of the wild life that gets advertised on here!!

I've got my conkers for the spiders, when I was in Singapore they used geese to keep the snakes away and warn of their presence! Can't see the wife agreeing to geese in the appartment!

I've had 3 that I've seen, in the garden. One, the brownish/mustardy colour one with blacky, stripes that is very poisonous, and it was right by my back door. That one took 3 big men to catch and kill. One black one was on my kitchen window sill, and another black one which was dead in the garden. I now keep all windows and doors closed.

Hi Andy F

Although I agree with what you say, that doesnt help if your petrified of them like I am! Im in the uk at the moment but am now nervous as I never really thought much about spiders and snakes when we are in trnc but Im going to send hubby on a recky when we come over!

Its an ultrasonic plug in that has different settings for different critters , the setting for rats , mice etc also prevents snakes from entering your premises , it was tested i believe by the seller when in india . i bought 1 for upstairs and 1 for downstairs . Great for Mozzies too . Tested by my good self . i am usually bitten to high heaven but only 2 bites and those occurred outside . I got them off ebay shops

Woody,

But cats aren't frightened of snakes...

Mine killed a big black 'un the other day - it was about 3 feet long - I say 'about three feet', 'cos the bugger had eaten a big chunk off one end - ugh!

Pity it was one of the 'useful' ones.

Keith.

How many people in the TRNC were killed by snakes last year?

How many were killed on the roads?

A little perspective here

Snake called by locals gufi (viper) ( most dangerouse one) is protected. They are more common up in mountains.Triangle shape head and very short tail and about meter long.

MarkVPiazza,

As far as I know, no one has ever died from snake bite in Cyprus, in living memory, anyway.

They can make you quite ill though.

Plus, a lot of people have a phobia about snakes, and there's no point in blundering about in long grass and getting bitten just for the hell of it...

Keith.

I have a 'snake detecting cat' whose white hair stands up on end if he smells a snake in the vicinity. He's also very useful for 'snake sweeping' in the house if I get paranoid! I just shove him in every room and he tells me if it's all clear or not! He's also a feline insect/spider hoover - if I see something I don't like, I just screech his name and he comes and eats whatever it is! Brilliant!

Just a though a friend of ours killed a poisonous snake last year in the garden, then proceded to dump it on waste ground. A Turkish Cypriot neighbour then told our friends you should always bury the snake as wasps and suchlike will feed on it and in doing so extract some of the venom which in turn if you are stung by a wasp will be passed to you.

i hate the bleeders as well!
