Just a reminder to all in Lapta that you have to get your dog licence today. You have to go to the field next to Silver Rocks before 1pm. Take your dog with you as my friend and I didn't take the dogs and they weren't too pleased. Took them last year and they didn't want to see them. You just can't win sometimes!

Sorry Lilli meant to say you have to take the vets book with you, cost today was 22 lira which is cheaper than last year as they charged more for a bitch I paid 36ytl last year.

Lilli,

I didn't even take Bella with me so I wouldn't worry just take one dog and tell them you can't take them all in the car at one time!

We have a dog Licence from Karsiyaka Muktah which we obtained last year when we first got our puppy.

Does anyone know if this would still be valid or as we now come under Lapta would we have to get a new one?

You need to do this every year - the Karsiyaka dates were last week on thurs and fri - it was on a letter delivered to our house - on the back of the letter was the bit about being fined for using water. I'm sure you could just take Biscuit to Lapta tho and it would be ok?

Hi Nurseawful, Glad my girl is legal again. Do you think I could apply for the dog-sitter job? I could do it Docs allowing. Anyway this is me trying out my new laptop. So far so good but will need to Skype from main computer until I figure this one out it has a built in web-cam but the rest is a mystery.

I didn't realise that dogs in TRNC had to have a licence? What is the cost then, or does it depend on the size of the dog??

I wish we had that system here in Bahrain, then perhaps it would stop all the illegal dog breeding going on, especially with Rottweilers, Dobermanns and German Shepherd Types!

Alsancak never mentioned licences when we went last year - just stuck a needle in him for worms. We've had worm stuff brought from Uk so dont need it doing by the cowboys who did it last year! We enquired about licences at the Belydesi when we first brought dog over and told they didnt do it. "If living in girne go to the Bel...there." Well we dont so didnt. He is never out without us and always on a lead so hopefully not likely to be picked up.

Parkview you may have missed your dates so speak to your Muhtar.

I took my dog to the lapta registration yesterday. You have a choice of either an injection or tablets. We took the tablets because or dog is wormed by our vet regularly and he hates injections! We took our vet book and they then filled out a green registration card. It costs 12TL for dogs and spayed bitches and 35TL for un-spayed bitches. The worming costs 10TL.

It's good that people need a dog licence in the same way TV licences are a requirement in the UK.

My question is, would the licence be cheaper for a black and white dog?

i bought my geman shepherd with me from uk and few weeks ago we decided by accident when our big boy found a new friend a beautiful bitch hound whom we have called lily.

we cannot afford another dog but we gave up a couple of trips out and had her spayed and jabbed and now we have a cypriot dog that is happy to have a loving family safe from cars and disease and from having pups

go on do your bit it will take inches off your waistline if you cant afford it

cyprusairsoft.... I took my dog to the registration at the top of Baspinar. I was the only ex-pat there and all the other people were locals, including chaps with hunting dogs. Please don't tar everybody with the same brush. (Watering your courtyard and path is another matter altogether!)

When I registered my dog on 16th most of the people there were locals and a few were hunting dogs.

For those of you who missed the registration:

1. Go to the Veterinary Department in Girne (/Lefkoşa/Mağusa). Bring your book if you have one, if not they will give you one. They will also give you Echinococcus tablets.

2. Take your book to your local Belediye for registration.

I found out from Alsancak Belediye today.

Will the veterinary department be able to provide to the public domain, the data from the the yearly dog innoculation campaign?

I would like to know the following:

Number of dogs treated

Number of dogs owned by temporary or permanent non-Cypriot residece (yabanci)

Number of dogs owned by Turkish Cypriot Kimlik Card holders (vatandash)

Should make an interesting read don't you think, obviously if the stats are as I suspect then the outcome will not be available to the public.
