as I understand it showtime is on nilesat?

that needs a dish only the size of a dustbin lid, 80-90cm diameter

all cards work with a sat box that has slots for them

there is no way the broadcaster can tell where you are receiving the programme

nextstar is a good local make otherwise arabia is probably cheaper

plugs and sockets and lightbulb fittings are uk-style unless made in turkey

tek-tan are fairly good for installation, talk to the owner

Hi andre,

I think that Showtime use Irdeto 2 & Viaccess 4.0 encryption.

Doesn't that mean that your receiver has to have one of those two Conditional Access Modules (decoders) fitted (either integral, or in a CI slot) in order for the card to work?

I understand that some cheaper boxes only have an integral Conax CAM.

Keith.

Hi Jim Chris09

re msg 1

1/ the receiver must have a CI slot ( *Conditional Access Model* Interface) to take a CAM or have a built in CAM that words with IREDETO encyption

2/ The dish should ideally be at least 0.8m - but preferably 1m - to cope with Cyprus heavy rain - loss of signal - esp. in Winter months

3/ The best receiver for after sales support and and software upgradability would be a HUMAX, followed by Technomate - try to buy a receiver with a USB port for software patching and one with the possibility to record - using the USB port

The BEST sat engineer is ( IMHO - I work in the biz) Iceman ( skycyprus.com )

re msg 2 Andre_514

>all cards work with a sat box that has slots for them <

Nope ! Many receivers have built-in CAM slots that aren't Iredto compatible and may even claim to be Irdeto compatible - but won't turn on a new Irdeto card ! I recommend buying a dedicated CAM and a well known make of receiver with two CI.

Thanks for your replies.

So.....The house I have in TRNC has an old Digiturk box from previous owner. Would that suffice? Dish is bout 1m so if DTurk box is Ok is a realignment of dish all that would be needed?

>>old Digiturk box from previous owner. Would that suffice?<<

Possible - but unlikely

1/ it may use Cyprtoworks encyption - not Irdeto ( Digiturk now use Irdeto for NEWER receivers)

2/ Don't know if the receiver can be reprogrammed to look at other satellites - YES, the dish has to be moved to look at Nilesat @ 7degrees west

You should only need to have the dish realigned and any sat engineer can tell you if the receiver you have will work

How much would an Irdeto receiver cost in TRNC?

S'pose I could consider bringing my own...they don't weigh too much!
