Last time I transferred money my bank in UK charged £25 and the bank in TRNC charged 1%. That meant a cost of nearly £100 to transfer £7000.

You are legally allowed to take £10,000 out of the UK, so why not take it yourself.

Hi tattlad, In 2006 I went through Stanstead Airport with £8000 in my bag. I had asked at the bank the previous day if this amount of money was ok to take out of the country and they said yes. When I was going through security, I was stopped searched and questioned about the money in my bag. I asked if they would do this in private, as I was aware there was a crowd staring and they were taking the money out of the brown envelope it was in. Fortunately I had the bank receipts on me and was able to prove that it had come out of a joint account. The money was to buy furniture for our new bungalow. I was made to feel like a criminal and it spoilt my holiday. My advice is to send it ahead to your bank account in TRNC. My bank charges £20.00 for doing this. The butlers wife
