Can anyone tell me the rules on getting permanent residency. I know I can apply next year for this but what costs are entailed. I have been told that the permanent residency is reviewed every 2 years, is this true, if so it doesn't seem very permanent

I am very surprised that there has been no input to this question. Doesn't anyone have any idea what the rules are?

nurseawful posted this on another thread:

"Firstly you need to go to immigration in Lefkosa to get your ins and outs which is basically a piece of paper that has the dates that you have been in and out of Cyprus. . Then you need to go to the police station in Girne. You need to take your passport, also a photocopy of this. Photocopy's of bank statements, rental agreement or your friends contract of sale, Muktars letter. Take photocopies of everything don't let them keep your originals.

Go to Girne hospital get your blood test and x-ray which you have to pay for. Then take this with you to immigration in Lefkosa 2-3 weeks later."

From what I remember there was a discussion about permanent residency some time ago and the general consensus of opinion was that there were no real benefits to be gained, it cost's a lot of money and you are not guaranteed to be accepted (you pay your money to apply and if not accepted then you lose your money). You are probably better off just renewing every year. But I stand to be corrected.

Message 4 of 6. You are talking about the Temporary Residency procedure & not Permanent Residency.

"Under new regulations introduced on February 21, 2008 foreigners wishing to apply for permanent residency must have stamps in their passport to prove they have renewed their temporary residency for a sixth year. "They can make their application as soon as they have their sixth stamp, so there is no need to wait six whole years to do this. Applicants must then obtain a list from Lefko§a police headquarters of their absences from the TRNC for each year of their temporary residency.

"The absences must not exceed 90 days in any one year and a clearance form must then be obtained from Lefkosa police headquarters."

Hi suleman

Thank you for your information but can you tell us what benefits permanent residency will bring and am I correct in stating that not all applications for permanent residency are approved?

Thank you in anticipation.
