Mike you can get the Havas airport bus from right outside arrivals, it will cost you 10TL each compared to a taxi which will cost you well over 100TL. There is also a train which is cheaper then the airport bus but never used that. The bus was clean, comfortable and runs right into Taksim.

I also reccomend havas. The taxis in Istanbul tend to take the long route or switch on the night time meter. Havas is pleasant and airconditioned.I think they depart evey 30 mins

We Hired a car for 54 Euros cheap however the fuel light was on orange and we had no idea where the petrol station was we had to pay additional toll for road 2tl and on the way back had to stop at barriers as there are no cash booths then walk to the control office and buy a card for suspension Bridge 30TL was told good for 10 Trips in fact i think i was ripped off only managed 1 more trip on return visit before my card was refused In Istanbul beware parking charges i think shop owners own the parking rights to their frontage to the road Had to pay £5 overnight We enjoyed the flexability only one things drivers are nearly as bad as Palermo Drivers

What about the metro bus that runs from the airport to Taksim. Used it this year with Turkish friend who explained you get a jeton from the airport. Newish express service, and cheap.

Stayed at Cartoon hotel on Taksim Sq last year. Taxi from Ataturk was 40tl going, 50tl coming back. Worth every kurus, better than any whiteknuckle fairgound ride, long time since her held me so tight.

just checked havas at sabiha gokcen and they have a transport to taksim for every flight that lands at the airport. the journey takes 1 hour, costs 10 tl per person and stops right in the centre of taksim where all the top hotels are. i would recommend the marmara istanbul hotel if you are not booked up else where. tel 0212 251 4696
