The latest crime in Holland (and why not in the UK and TRNC?): burglars are checking open forums on the Internet to search for careless holidaymakers. Messages to friends like: "I'm in Spain from June 22 until July 14." Often followed by name, address and phone number... Insurance companies (in Holland) have now warned people that they will not pay if people made it easy for burglars! It reminds me of the burglars who at Schiphol Airport checked labels on outgoing holiday makers suitcases...

Good to try and remind folks that, what they write down on these forums can be used against them, well done dutchcrusader.

Hi DutchCrusader, I remember years ago that we never had our "HOME" address showing on our luggage, when going on holiday. Just a precaution then, but obviously a major concern now! Navek

Hi Dutch. Well reminded I have seen people post her with an advert about when they will be and will not be where. I have in the past asked administrators to change or remove similar posts on BB's (including Cyprus 44). If insurers were to know what details some people post they would not pay out as they would consider it negligence.

Maybe even better to write your own mobile phone number (which sometimes cannot be reached in a foreign country) on the label AND someone's (mobile) phone number in the country you're leaving.
